PROGRAM MANAGER - Education
This salaried position reports to the VSGC Director and supervises two full-time positions (a Program Specialist, a Technical Programs Coordinator) and other support personnel as needed. This position functions as an Internship Manager and is responsible for the planning and execution of the Commonwealth STEM Industry Internship Program (CSIIP). The CSIIP is a free-to-use online system that allows Virginia undergraduate students majoring in STEM-related fields to apply for paid internships with more than 250 Virginia companies. The program has recently placed about 130 interns per year for spring, summer, and fall internships. One of the primary tasks of the Internships Manager is to grow the program and increase the number of participating companies and student placements. Other duties include sustaining existing partnerships and overseeing the recruitment and placement process. This position also oversees the NASA STEM Takes Flight Community College Research Experiences Program. which places about 27 students per year in paid internships at NASA Wallops Flight Facility and NASA Langley Research Center. Proposal writing and development to secure grants for expanded internship opportunities and internship subsidies. This position requires demonstrated experience in strong written and verbal communication skills as it requires extensive interaction with current and potential companies to market and grow the program and outreach to undergraduate STEM students for program.

Required Education and Skills:

Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, public administration, or related field.

A minimum of three years’ experience in workforce development, recruiting, industry internships, monitoring student experiences

Job Responsibilities:

Specific Duties:

  • Oversight of three to four-person team. Manage all planning/execution of all programs. Delegate actions amongst team. Develop performance reviews for individual team members. Work with other VSGC staff/consultant as needed to facilitate program needs. Work closely with VSGC Accountant regarding budget oversight and any necessary steps required for processing subsidies.
  • Work with consultant to oversee website/application updates to include new projects. Oversee fresh marketing materials and social media updates. Oversee with team coordination of certificates/plaques w/Governor's Office; approval of new applications/company registrations; reach out to newly registered companies; assist companies with student placements and potential subsidized funding when applicable. Update MOAs for internship subsidies as required by grants and partnerships.
  • Work with team to market programs to VA companies via STEM related events throughout the state, networking events, memberships, making presentations, use of web resources, personnel managers, and partners with company members. Documenting all follow up in Excel or Google Sheets by team members.
  • Work with team to market via press releases, emails/visits to Virginia higher education institutions' faculty and students and Virginia businesses. Outreach to student societies and STEM student organizations.
  • Work to add new partners as appropriate, reach out to current partners with updates and ask them to share program info with their membership; offer internship placement assistance.
  • Work with VSGC Media Specialist to develop 2-4 webcasts annually that would be of interest to students; can be in conjunction with other STEM video initiatives. Post on website and advertise to current interns and to Virginia students at large via emails and press releases
