Project Controls Specialist
Job Summary
The Marathon Petroleum Company (MPC) Los Angeles Refining (LAR) is seeking a Project Controls Specialist. The successful candidate will have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work in a team environment. This individual will provide project controls and administrative support for the Turnaround group. Duties include performing cost control and estimating functions relating to Turnarounds. The Project Controls Specialist will work with Project Control group to maintain consistent cost reporting and adhering to MPC Standards. The hours of the position are Monday – Thursday 6AM – 4:30PM with availability 7 days per week during Turnaround events.
Key Responsibilities
Perform as the project controls/ cost control representative for the Turnaround Team
Provide support in estimating and cost reporting in adherence to standards
Lead development of Hiring Plans and Equipment Plans
Maintain manpower and equipment plans and report against the plans daily for all assigned projects
Lead budgeting and estimating for future Turnaround events
Coordinate and review check and control estimates for Turnarounds
Develop and monitor, with the project team, project execution strategy and tactical plans to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness for individual projects
Review TRACK time and SAP for invoice compliance for Turnaround group purchase orders
Monitors actual earned value, productivity, direct/indirect ratios, etc.
Monitor and prepare cost reports Turnarounds. Prepare Turnaround forecasts
Create and Maintain charge matrix for the team
Monitors actual earned value, productivity, direct/ indirect ratios, etc.
Communicate with Accounting to close out month
Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Business, Accounting, Finance or Engineering.
Must have at least 2 years of project controls or project management experience.
Must be proficiency in Microsoft Suite - Excel, Word and Outlook.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in projects or construction planning or cost controls in refining or petrochemical industry is preferred.
Field experience and a successful history of collaborating with field execution leads is preferred.
Advanced Excel/Access Experience is preferred.
Experience with Enterprise Project Controls systems such as SAP or Primavera P6 preferred.
Experience developing reports with data analytics tools such as Power BI is preferred.
A clean and valid driver’s license is preferred.
