Project Coordinator, Economics Center

This position is remote-eligible and only for consideration within the United States where WRI is state registered. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission for the US. WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position

About the Program:

The World Resources Institute’s Economics Center helps provide a better understanding of the value that healthy ecosystems and climate action provide to the economy. Using an economics lens, we analyze problems and solutions at the intersection of environment and human well-being. We develop tools and guidance to help decision-makers understand the economic and social trade-offs of investing in and protecting natural resources and the climate. Our research makes the case for why climate action and ecosystem protection go hand-in-hand with economic growth and prosperity.

Job Highlight:

WRI’s Economics Center requires an experienced professional to support the center with program management, budgeting, contracts, grants, and execution of project activities across multiple active projects. You will work with other Global and in-country WRI teams, and external research partners and service providers in the development of new funding proposals, projects, and workstreams. In pursuit of these efforts, your specific responsibilities will include budget management, proposal development, grant compliance, managing contracts and subagreements, facilitating outreach efforts, organizing team meeting and international workshops. Position available for work in the DC office or remote in select states. You will report to the Operations Manager.

What will you do:

Budgeting and Financial Management (30%):

  • Prepare and monitor the Economics Center’s annual overall budget as well project- and funder-specific budgets up to multiple years, monitoring changes and providing updates to managers and Director on projects’ financial status, risks, and needs, in consultation with operations manager
  • Review and monitor all project transactions, commitments, and revenue prospects, and work with project managers to collect updates and resolve issues
  • Work with other WRI teams to ensure successful collaboration on matrixed projects, including tracking staff time and avoiding gaps or imbalances
  • Support fundraising tasks, including creating budgets for funding proposals, responding to financial inquiries from donors, and supporting managers in monitoring appropriate use of donor funds

Grants and Contracts Management (30%):

  • Prepare and maintain sub-grant and contract agreements with partners and service providers, ensuring appropriate WRI policies are followed, and project managers are aware of formally assigned terms, completion of work, and risks to deliverables
  • Review invoices and subgrantee financial reports and submit payments
  • Assist project managers in ensuring compliance with the terms and conditions of complex international and multi-lateral grants and contracts, including collection and payment of contract invoices, adherence to funder restrictions, etc.
  • Support development and submission of grant proposals and create grant financial reports to WRI and donor specifications
  • Monitor grant revenues and outstanding payments, and support collection of commitments and proper forecast and tracking of Economics Center fundraising prospects

Program Support & Event Management (40%):

  • Support Global Director on financial, staffing, and other operational/administrative duties
  • Support scheduling, agenda-setting, file maintenance and action-item follow-up for Economics Center team meetings, retreats, and other special needs
  • Coordinates recruitment and manage onboarding of new team members and interns
  • Coordinate conferences, webinars and event logistics for domestic and international meetings and workshops, including venue, catering, equipment, translators, travel, per diem and visa support for WRI staff and event participants
  • Support Economics Center staff with WRI travel policy, expense reports, and policies

What will you need:

  • Education: You have a completed Bachelor's degree required or sufficient work experience to demonstrate equivalent professional competency
  • Detail-oriented and organized thinker with an interest in program operations, grant compliance, and financial management
  • Demonstrated computer skills including high level of comfort with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), web-based communications (Teams, Zoom), with CRM database (Salesforce), project management (Asana) and budgeting a plus. Advanced Excel skills (can maintain complex spreadsheets) required
  • Detail-oriented and organized thinker with an interest in program operations, grant compliance, and financial management
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including proactively identifying problems and working with team members to develop solutions
  • Commitment to WRI’s mission and the values of integrity, innovation and respect that underpin all aspects of our operations
  • US work authorization is required for this position

Potential Salary: Salary range is between 57,000 and 64,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
