Project Engineer - Electrical

Haskell’s Design & Consulting Team unites architecture, engineering, and consulting professionals from across industries and geographies. While some clients are looking for turnkey design-build or engineer-procure-construct projects, The Design & Consulting Team serves clients who need specialized, fee-for-service design or consulting projects. These types of projects allow our team to form a strong rapport with client teams, marshaling them as they grow and helping them address industry and market challenges. The Design & Consulting Team serves four primary markets: Government, primarily the Department of Defense, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Air and Army National Guard, and the U.S. Naval Facilities Command; Industrial, focusing on food and beverage, consumer products, and utilities; Civil Infrastructure; and Healthcare.

In this role, you will be assigned expanding responsibility for assigned project designs, coordination, client communications, and associated construction administration.

Job Responsibilities:

Application of Knowledge of Building Systems (Conceptual Design)

  • Working knowledge of codes and standards including but not limited to: NFPA 70, 72, 101, 110, 780; UL 96A; ASHRAE 90.1; and Building Codes
  • Knows when to obtain support from Lead Electrical Engineer or Senior Engineer for assistance to determine building requirements for special occupancies
  • Assists the Lead Electrical Engineer or Senior Engineer with working with the building/facility owner to ensure the appropriate systems/products are utilized in their facility

Lighting design, system types, and understanding of the following concepts:

  • Various lighting and lamp applications
  • Color temperatures
  • Lighting rules such as spacing to mounting height ratio, manual point to point calculations, and the impact of horizontal and vertical footcandles
  • Life safety requirements (egress and exit marking)
  • Circuiting and control

Power design

  • A growing knowledge of the design of power distribution
  • Panel schedules
  • Grounding and lightning protection systems
  • Knowledge of the application of emergency systems, legally required systems, and optional standby systems
  • Coordinates the connections of all power utilization components

Documentation of calculations, reflecting code compliance of the following:

  • Lighting calculations
  • Power load calculations
  • Short circuit and voltage drop calculations
  • Coordination studies

Fire alarm design

  • Performs system design
  • Initiation device layout
  • Smoke detection design
  • Indicating device layout
  • Other system interconnections

Telecommunications design

  • Understanding of the EIA/TIA standards

Security system design

  • Card access system design, learning system types, and understanding of functional procedures
  • CCTV system design
  • Intrusion detection systems design, and understanding of system types and applications
  • Paging and intercommunication systems design, system types, and applications

Design

  • Ensures there are complete and accurate construction documents
  • Able to utilize and manage design software

Construction Support

  • Problem-solving for field oversight including Requests for Information (RFI)
  • Shop drawing/Submittal review
  • Field inspections and reports

Project Management

  • Monitors work performed by the assigned designers and technicians
  • Ensures all project internal and external comments and markups are incorporated into the project’s design documents and specifications

Profitability, Planning, and Scheduling

  • Monitors allocated manhours to ensure that the work performed is within project manhours
  • Works with Design/Engineering Managers to ensure the project schedule will be met and complete documents are provided for each submission

Professional Development

  • Maintains required licensing CEUs by proactively seeking training to expand knowledge

Leadership

  • Manages assigned staff on the projects
  • Provides coaching/mentoring of assigned staff promoting individual growth
  • Engages the entire electrical team working with all team members
  • Flexible and willing to quickly move between projects as needed to assist in meeting overall project schedules

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • Five to eight (5-8) years of relevant experience

Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
  • Proficient knowledge of Revit software

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.

Salary Range:

The base salary for this position is $85,000-$155,000. The actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
