Job Summary:
This position conducts research to identify, screen and recommend prospective donors, with a focus on continual improvement of gift pipelines and prospect lists. The position also coordinates activities related to the identification, research and tracking of Foundation donor prospects and directs, monitors, and participates in research activities including data collection, evaluation, and analysis.

Essential Functions:
- Identify, screen, analyze, and recommend individuals, corporations, and foundations as prospective donors/volunteers using various research resources.
- Creates records, gathers, analyzes, updates, and maintains information on donors/volunteers to include alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations.
- Analyzes data and prepares reports related to prospective and current donors/volunteers.
- Systematically identifies and classifies prospective donors.
- Research and evaluate the associated cost of research sources in order to make recommendations of use.
- Provides database system cleanup, improvement, and/or data input quality assurance.
- Monitors programs/services budget and ensures programs/services are operating within specifications.
- Assist in the execution of other development related programs, such as fund raising events.
- Evaluates and analyzes research data and writes in-depth reports for Development Officers, Alumni Relations staff, the President of the Foundation, NMSU partners and others to use in fundraising efforts.
- Compiles prospect list by organizing the identification, screening, and rating of gift capacity of potential donors to the Foundation.
- Provides training and technical assistance to users of specialized software.
- May modify and write computer programs to establish or improve databases to track and report on prospect activity.
- Uses professional organizations and contacts, internet databases, or other information sources to identify prospects for specific Foundation projects.
- Identifies creative, strategic methods to help development officers effectively engage prospects.
- Develops new research strategies and techniques, as new software and information resources become available.
- Participates in the decision making on the procurement of new resources to support the research of new prospects.
- Assigns, coordinates, reviews, and conducts in-depth research on individuals, corporations and foundations using a wide variety of original source material including public documents, legal records, periodicals, computer databases, professional organizations, professional contacts, and the Internet.
- Participates in the maintenance of prospect lists and tracking systems.
- Serves as a resource to staff, development directors and Foundation administrators for information relating to the research of prospects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Education, Knowledge, Experience & Certification/License:

- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of prospect research.
- Knowledge of Internet database searching.
- Knowledge of Windows based software.
- Knowledge of the ethics statement of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
- Skill in coordinating the work of others, making independent and creative decisions, and communicating effectively.
- Ability to summarize research data and write in-depth reports.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
