Position Summary
The part-time Associate is an integral member of a 3-person team organizing and delivering academic, immigration, and retention services to approximately 380 international (F-1 visa) students from over 80 nations.

Job Description
  • This position develops, refines and implements effective student retention strategies and programs, including working one-on-one with students to develop individual two-year course plans that include degree objective, and address transfer issues for destination universities.


  • In addition:
  • (1) organizes substantive, ongoing, orientation programming, including delivering arrival orientations and co-teaching semester-length orientation seminar for first-year F-1 students,
  • (2) develops and sustains student leadership programming with priority on integrating U.S. and international students
  • (3) nurtures relationships with sister 4-year colleges/universities to encourage students’ persistence and completion (including transfer) and
  • (4) tracks and monitors statistical results on retention, graduation and achievement of students’ personal and academic goals.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer applicants with experience:
  • (1) developing, refining and implementing effective F-1 international student retention strategies and programs,
  • (2) promoting the personal development of students and acquisition of life skills needed to adjust to a different culture,
  • (3) delivering substantive and ongoing orientation programming,
  • (4) teaching at a community college or university serving diverse student populations,
  • (5) promoting student access to integrated student services,
  • (6) creating a culture in a higher education context that promotes intercultural learning,
  • (7) tracking, monitoring and reporting statistical results on retention, graduation and student learning,
  • (8) working collaboratively with faculty and academic and student service departments and
  • (9) understanding immigration regulations and changes in government policy as they concern F-1 international students.


  • A Master’s degree, foreign language proficiency, and experience living in another country are added pluses.

Supplemental Job Information
  • This is a part-time position.
  • The PT Associate reports to the Director of International Education.
  • The position includes responsibility to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO).
  • In the capacity as a DSO, the PT Associate advises students on F-1 visa immigration matters and maintains records in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, known as SEVIS.

Additional Documents Required
  • If the applicant is not substituting prior-related work experience for the educational requirement of an awarded Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited educational institution, must attach a copy of their diploma or transcript at the time of application.
  • In addition, applicants must submit a cover letter and resume at the time of application.
  • Applicants not substituting work experience for the educational requirement must bring an official transcript when selected for an interview.


  • In order to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO), the PT Associate must be either a citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States.

  • Acceptable documents to be provided at the time of interview to prove eligibility are any one of the following:
  • (1) copy of US passport (current or expired),
  • (2) copy of US birth certificate,
  • (3) copy of alien registration card or
  • (4) copy of naturalization/citizenship certificate.
