Publishing Assistant, Riverhead

Are you passionate about books and interested in the behind-the-scenes business that makes them happen? Riverhead Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House, is looking for a Publishing Assistant in the Editorial Department to report to the Publisher of the Riverhead Books imprint.


This position is in support of editorial operations and offers excellent insight into the processes of our department, as well as a big-picture overview of how the publishing industry works. We’re looking for someone who enjoys organizing workflow, managing efficient communication channels and keeping track of the many detailed tasks involved in creating and publishing an imprint’s list.


Founded in 1994, Riverhead Books is a boutique literary imprint that publishes urgent, unheard voices worldwide, including award-winning literary fiction and bestselling nonfiction writers. Throughout its history, Riverhead has been dedicated to publishing extraordinary groundbreaking, unique writers. Riverhead’s books and authors have won or been finalists for Pulitzer Prizes, National Book Awards, National Book Critic Circle Awards, MacArthur Genius Awards, Hurston Wright Legacy Awards, Dayton Literary Peace Prizes, and numerous other distinctions. Some of Riverhead’s notable authors include Mohsin Hamid, James McBride, Daniel Pink, Anne Lamott, Randall Munroe, and Akwaeke Emezi.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversee editorial production schedules and liaise between editorial and the sales, marketing, publicity, and production departments
  • Manage contract requests and passing manuscripts to production
  • Schedule imprint-wide meetings and editorial meetings
  • Establish tracking systems for submissions, acquisitions, attendance, etc.
  • Process copyright forms, author copy orders and supply orders, etc.
  • Point person in editorial for assisting in work with corporate systems including Authenticity Read database, Box, InMotion, BPI, OneDrive, Adobe, etc.


Requirements:

  • Project management experience
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. An interest and eagerness in learning new systems and software
  • Passion for organizing efficient workflow
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate across teams
  • Interest in helping to make operations and processes run efficiently
  • Self-starter with impeccable attention to detail
  • Works well under pressure and can handle multiple responsibilities in a deadline driven environment
  • Able to prioritize, multi-task, and demonstrate excellent time management skills
  • Strong sense of integrity with ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion


The salary for this position is $48,000
. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
