Job Title: Heavy Industrial CNC Machinist (1st & 2nd Shift)

Location: North Charleston, South Carolina

Duration: Full-time, Contract-to-Hire

Shifts Available: 1st & 2nd Shift

Pay Rate: $25 – $35/hr. (Based on Experience)


Position Overview:


Qualdoc is hiring experienced CNC Machinists to join our team full-time. If you're passionate about precision machining and seeking a challenging, rewarding opportunity, this could be the shop for you! In this role, you’ll be responsible for setting up and operating CNC and manual machines with precision, fabricating and repairing machine components, and ensuring quality standards are met.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and set up CNC and manually controlled machines such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, and band saws.
  • Fabricate and shape metal parts, tools, and machine components.
  • Safely select, align, secure, and remove fixtures, cutting tools, and materials from machines.
  • Recognize and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to complete assigned tasks.
  • Determine and utilize the correct tools for each job.
  • Use gauges and precision measuring instruments to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on equipment.
  • Track job progress and parts using travelers.
  • Maintain a safe and clean workspace, following all procedures and safety regulations.
  • Work overtime as needed, including evenings and weekends.
  • Communicate with team members and supervisors to coordinate workflow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Skills & Experience:
  • Machine setup experience.
  • Ability to load and unload parts.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints.
  • Ability to operate machines independently.
  • Capability to QC own parts (final inspection done by an inspector).
  • Understanding of speeds and feeds.
  • MasterCam experience (not required for manual machinists).


Preferred Skills:
  • Experience operating Heavy Industrial Lathes, Grinders, Boring Mills, Planers, and Portable Tools.
  • Knowledge of turning, drilling, tapping, boring, honing, polishing, and threading.
  • Large part machining experience preferred (e.g., ship propeller shafts, steering gear).
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.


Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5–10 years of machining experience preferred.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Mazatrol, Okuma, DMG/Mori, or Heidenhain CNC controls.
  • Basic knowledge of G-Code and M-Code for CNC programming.
  • Ability to maintain 0.001" tolerances.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience setting up jobs on vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers and CNC turning centers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and using precision measuring tools.
  • Basic math skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to move products using an overhead crane.
  • Good vision is required, including close, distance, color, and depth perception.
  • Some computer work is required for job tracking and documentation.


Work Environment:
  • Moderate to high noise levels due to machinery operations.
  • Shop environment with safety protocols in place.
