This Computer Programmer position in the Vacuum Coatings Process group will support existing software and develop new software for quality control and new product development for thin film coating production. This position will also support research and technical programs aimed at developing new products and process improvements for thin film coatings on glass for architectural and automotive applications. Production support will include daily trouble-shooting and maintenance of quality control systems to sustain high-volume coated glass production at Vitro’s installed base of vacuum coaters in North America and Mexico.

Responsibilities:

Support and develop software and computer programs for optical modelling equipment, quality control equipment, and sheet resistance measurement systems.
Daily trouble-shooting and improvement of computer programs used to control and measure properties of low emissivity thin film coatings.
Compile research reports and communicate scientific/engineering findings in meetings to the audience from diverse background.
~25%-35% time of travel will be required for project launch and execution.

Qualifications:

Coding skills in at least two programming languages such as Visual Basic, C, C++, C#, VB, MATLAB, Python, etc.
Excellent listening skills and communication skills, particularly with manufacturing personnel and equipment operators.
Able to display complex technical information and communicate clearly and simply to people who may not have much background in a technical area.
Fundamental understanding of statistics and process engineering.
Highly driven and self-motivated to continually learn and expand skill sets.
Strong sense of ownership and dedication to timely and detailed follow-through.
Good interpersonal communication and writing skills.

Additional preferred:

Interest and experience with optical coatings and thin film coatings on glass.
Knowledge of flat glass and vacuum coating manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with concepts of color measurement, thin film characterization, thin film optics, and vacuum coating equipment.
Experience with operating and maintaining electrical/mechanical scientific instruments.
Technical knowledge and experience in Wonderware InTouch, Allen Bradley PLC, and/or other types of control systems.
Experience with SQL, OSISoft-PI, and Azure Platform and familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts and implementation.
