Reframe Systems is on a mission to build net-zero carbon housing for all at a massive scale. To achieve our mission, we need to make net-zero carbon housing more affordable, and we are re-imagining how housing is designed and built. Our volumetric module platform and highly automated production system will drive down cost, delivery time, and embodied carbon for multifamily housing. We are setting up our first digital factory in the greater Boston area (Andover, MA) and have a roadmap to scale our presence nationally. We are disrupting assembly line manufacturing for housing production and are backed by leading VC firms in the industrial and construction space.
We seek a talented and detail-oriented Senior Architectural Designer to join our dynamic architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) team. The Architectural Designer will be crucial in transforming conceptual designs into precise, detailed designs for residential (single-family) and low-rise multi-family (triple-decker and small to medium multi-family) buildings. This role requires a strong command of codes such as the International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC), a deep working knowledge of creating, managing, and updating architectural design details, a keen eye for accuracy, and a deep understanding of architectural principles. We are looking for someone with 7-10 years of deep experience working in AEC, preferably for residential and low-rise multi-family buildings in the US.
The position reports to the Head of Building Products. The position is full-time, salaried, and exempt.
Responsibilities:
Design: Create detailed designs, architectural drawings, plans, sections, and elevations. Work under the direction of the head architect and collaborate with other architects and designers to convert design concepts into technical drawings.
Design Documents: Generate drawings for floor plans, site plans, electrical layouts, and structural details, ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.
Material and Equipment Research: Assist the AEC team in researching and selecting appropriate building materials (with particular consideration for low embodied carbon materials and passive house specifications), finishes, and equipment to meet project specifications and budget constraints—a focus on products that increase production speed while lowering the embedded carbon and increase energy efficiency.
Project Coordination: Work closely with the AEC team to coordinate design and drawings with other disciplines, such as structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and interior designers, to ensure seamless design integration.
Quality Assurance: Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project standards and regulations. Make revisions as necessary to address design changes or discrepancies.
Code Compliance: Stay current with building codes to ensure all drawings and plans meet legal requirements.
Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with architects, project managers, and other team members to meet project deadlines and objectives.
Qualifications:
A minimum Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) degree is required. Master of Architecture (MArch) is strongly preferred.
Prior experience in architectural drafting and 3D modeling (CAD) is required.
The ability to quickly pick up various architectural design details is strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of architectural principles, building materials, and construction methods.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and precise drawings.
Knowledge of residential building codes and regulations is preferred.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
Additional Information:
