About the role

As a Lead Software Engineer at Remo, you'll be the technical leader of a team focused on enhancing the provider experience within our innovative dementia care platform. You'll design and build the tools that empower healthcare professionals to deliver personalized, effective care to our patients and their caregivers. Your work will directly contribute to our mission of transforming dementia care and improving the lives of those affected by this complex condition.

What you’ll be doing

  • Your typical day will include writing code, facilitating technical discussions, planning for and leading major complex projects, and reviewing your peers’ code.

  • You will own deliverables and pursue them with a sense of urgency while identifying roadblocks, mitigating risks, and suggesting course corrections when appropriate.

  • You will have a significant level of participation in your team’s activities, and your leadership will help shape the team’s and organization’s technical direction.

  • You will lead technical design by driving technical discussions, setting architectural principles, and guiding the team on best practices and standards.

  • You will build scalable systems by designing, developing, and maintaining highly scalable, reliable solutions that support our growing user base and evolving healthcare needs.

  • You will solve complex healthcare problems by engineering resilient and performant solutions to address unique challenges in healthcare technology, especially as it pertains to our core mission of improving dementia care.

  • You will deliver high-quality features that utilize our core tech stack (React, TypeScript, Next.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL) to create impactful features that directly improve the provider experience and their ability to deliver the best care possible.

  • You will work cross-functionally to gather requirements, lead projects, and mentor your fellow engineers to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • You will integrate healthcare standards and implement technologies such as FHIR, HL7, and DICOM to ensure seamless integration with existing healthcare systems.

  • You will spend time working on implementing DICOM and PACS functionalities, including image processing, communication protocols, and data storage, according to industry standards and best practices.

  • You will spend time working on implementing X12 and ADT functionalities, including claims processing, billing, encounters, revenue cycle management, and admission, discharge, transfer feeds.

  • You will prioritize security and implement industry-standard security practices to safeguard sensitive patient data.

  • You will design and implement automated tests (end-to-end, performance, load, security) to maintain the highest quality standards.

  • You will work with the engineering leadership team to define architectural principles, frameworks, and standards to ensure consistency across the organization.

  • You will work with autonomy to make critical technology choices, coordinate the work of your team, and ensure the successful delivery of projects you are leading.

  • You’ll regularly provide technical mentorship to fellow engineers and may often coordinate the activities of your peers.

  • You will report to the Engineering Manager and CTO.

What we’re looking for

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of designing and building large-scale systems in healthcare.

  • Proficiency and strong knowledge of FHIR, HL7, X12, ADT, PACS, DICOM, and EHR / EMR systems.

  • Proficiency with our architecture (Docker, Node.js/TypeScript, GraphQL) and cloud environments (AWS or Aptible).

  • Experience leading technical design discussions and providing guidance on best practices, coding standards, and architecture principles.

  • Experience building full-stack user facing features for web applications while prioritizing performance optimization and security.

  • Experience leading complex features driving the technical architecture and requirements.

  • Proven ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Experience designing and implementing GraphQL APIs while accounting for security and performance.

  • Experience with PACS, electronic medical records (EMR) or patient management systems (PMs), as well as other clinical systems.

  • Experience implementing mechanisms to drive high velocity, highly functioning engineering teams.

  • In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL, relational databases in general, as well as messaging systems.

  • Knowledge of compliance and health data privacy standards (SOC 2, HIPAA, HITRUST) is a plus.

Remo aims to reduce health inequities by improving access to affordable, high-quality dementia care. Embracing diversity and equal opportunity are core to that mission–these principles shape our culture, the products we build, and the services we deliver. We celebrate a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, reflecting the diversity of the caregivers and patients we serve.
