We are a small but strong team of 70+ people (and growing) hyper-focused on delivering a world-class platform and unparalleled service with our industry-leading partnerships. To help accelerate our growth and pace of delivery, we are looking for a talented General Counsel to join our team.


As the General Counsel at Remofirst, you will serve as the legal advisor, responsible for overseeing all legal matters pertaining to the company’s operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief of Staff, you will provide strategic legal guidance, manage regulatory compliance, and mitigate legal risks to protect the company’s interests. The role of the General Counsel at Remofirst is critical in ensuring that our business practices are ethical, compliant, and aligned with our organizational objectives.


What you'll be doing:
  • Legal Strategy and Compliance:
- Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations relevant to employer-of-record services and provide proactive guidance to ensure compliance.
- Review and advise on contracts, agreements, and legal documents to protect the company’s interests and mitigate legal risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management:
- Oversee compliance efforts across various jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to employment, tax, and labour laws governing employer-of-record operations.
-  Identify and assess legal risks associated with business activities and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to implement policies and procedures that promote legal compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Corporate Governance and Transactions:
- Provide legal counsel on corporate governance matters, including board governance, shareholder relations, and regulatory filings.
- Support corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships, by conducting due diligence and drafting relevant legal documents.
- Litigation and Dispute Resolution:
- Manage litigation and dispute resolution processes, including negotiations, settlements, and litigation strategy development.
- Liaise with external legal counsel as needed to represent the company’s interests in legal proceedings.
  • Intellectual Property and Data Protection:
- Manage intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents, to protect the company’s assets and interests.
- Ensure compliance with data protection laws and regulations, including GDPR and CCPA, by developing and implementing data privacy policies and procedures.


What you’ll need:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the Californian state bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with significant experience in corporate law, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Proven track record of providing strategic legal counsel to businesses, preferably within the professional services or HR outsourcing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, tax law, and corporate governance principles, with experience in international legal matters being a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess legal risks and provide practical solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve organizational goals.
