The Capital Accountant is responsible for managing the accounting associated with fixed assets including depreciation, CAPEX accruals, Assets Under Construction (AUC), Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) and the year-end impairment process. In addition to Capital Accounting responsibilities, the Capital Accountant will be tasked with performing other duties within the team related to Joint Venture... Accounting. This role requires a working knowledge of standard Oil and Gas JOA’s and COPAS Accounting Procedures for our U.S. and international projects. Responsibilities include accurate recording of all joint interest billings (operated and non-operated), cash call management, payout statements and revenues related to non-operated and operated properties. The successful candidate for this role will have broad knowledge of operational accounting for both operated and non-operated assets in the U.S. and international arenas, performance reporting, and will have working knowledge of COPAS and AIPN accounting procedures.
Primary Functions And Responsibilities
• Provide monthly, yearly, quarterly variance analysis of P&L, BS, and CF’s.
• Record, analyze, and interpret financial results including DDA, CAPEX, and OPEX.
• Manage monthly and quarterly reserve adjustments and additions in SAP for various producing assets
• Management of Asset Retirement Obligations, DD&A and the year-end impairment process
• Management of Fixed Assets and Assets under Construction for various conventional and unconventional assets
• Accounting for leases under IFRS 16 standard
• Ability to adhere to tight deadlines
Additional Responsibilities As Assigned
• Resolve working interest disputes through collaboration with Land and Division Order
• Proactively review existing and new JV accounting procedures, JOA’s, PSA’s, and JDA’s
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations of applicable A/P, A/R, Capital and OPEX accruals, ARO, cash call, and Fixed assets accounts
• Record incoming / outgoing JIBs for operated & non-op operations in a timely and accurate manner
• Record incoming payments in a timely and accurate manner
• Provide JV audit assistance and / or manage the formal JV audit response
• Be recognized as the SAP expert for the JV function in the business unit and assist in the continuous improvement of SAP processes as it pertains to JIB’s and payments
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables and lookups), Word and Outlook.
• Project management skills to assist in specific initiatives as they arise
Requirements
• Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any company
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher Accounting, Finance, or Economics preferred
• 5 years of progressive working experience
• Experience working with COPAS and AIPN accounting procedures preferred
• Experience in internal management & performance reporting
• Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards is desirable but not required
• Detail orientated coupled with the ability to learn quickly
• Experience with SAP & SAP AFO. Other major ERP experience considered
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization including C-Suite executives
• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
