Research in the Pasquale lab investigates the signaling activities of Eph receptor tyrosine kinases in order to understand their roles in normal physiology and in pathological conditions such as cancer and neurodegeneration. Ongoing efforts in the laboratory also focus on the development of peptides and small molecules modulating Eph receptor signaling for research and translational applications.

Summary

The Research Assistant, under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) or a lab member, will be involved in studies centered on signal transduction and cancer biology. The Research Assistant will contribute to the completion of diverse tasks, laboratory procedures, practices, and protocols under specific direction. The Research Assistant will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment performing a variety of biochemical, molecular and cell biology techniques, including maintenance of various mammalian cell lines, cell transfections, cell-based assays, immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation, ELISA assays, molecular cloning, PCR, and other related tasks as required. The Research Assistant may perform some experiments with mouse models. This position offers opportunities for training and career growth.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with the PI or a lab member to plan project experiments.
  • Efficiently performs experiments.
  • Provide data interpretation and analysis of results.
  • Perform data entry and use laboratory software applications.
  • Troubleshoot problems and develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Accurately document and record all experiments in lab notebooks and electronic data systems.
  • Write, or obtain from lab members, and maintain an electronic library of commonly used lab protocols.
  • Anticipates the needs of the lab and prepares accordingly by ordering supplies and maintaining inventory, considers budget implications.
  • Maintain various reagent collections (antibodies, plasmids, enzymes) and inventories.
  • Assist with lab organization and maintenance as needed.
  • Operate specialized equipment requiring a moderate degree of skill.
  • Follow all appropriate safety protocols and maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment. Ensure that safe work practices according to EH&S guidelines are followed by lab members, including handling of chemicals and biohazardous materials.
  • Qualified individuals will have the opportunity to work on independent research projects.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science, chemistry or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
  • Prior lab experience in biochemistry, cell biology and/or molecular biology is preferred.
  • Background in signal transduction and/or cancer biology, and working with mouse models are desirable.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $24 - $28/hour commensurate with experience.
