Research Associate, Analytical Technical Operations

The Role:
Moderna is seeking a molecular biologist to join Technical Development’s newly established Sequencing Center. In this laboratory-based position, the individual will routinely process sequencing samples, operate, and troubleshoot instruments including ABI 3730xl, Echo, Illumina MiSeq, NovaSeq, plate readers and liquid handlers. Experience with lab automation is a plus. The candidate must thrive in a fast pace high throughput environment, have a collaborative spirit, and be curious and willing to learn new techniques to push process development forward.

Here’s What You’ll Do:
Prepare samples, execute sequencing run within rapid turnaround time

Understand sequencing techniques and laboratory equipment troubleshooting

Enable high throughput testing workflows

Execute improvement projects to strengthen overall lab competencies

Be accountable for good documentation of experiments

Work closely with other scientists, as well as cross-functional groups for method optimization

Flexible to support 11-7pm operations and occasionally weekend work

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
Minimum Qualifications

BS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field

1-3 years of hands-on experience in a biochemistry/molecular biology lab

Understanding of good lab practices and techniques

Ability to multi-task and be flexible

Desire to learn and be part of fast-paced team with multiple concurrent priorities

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Sanger sequencing and/or Illumina NGS workflow

Experience with qPCR, agarose gel, and other molecular biology techniques

Experience with integrated laboratory automation including Hamilton and Echo liquid handlers
