Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and collaborative protein engineer/biochemist/chemical biologist to join our Technology Discovery group within Therapeutic Discovery Research at Seagen. We are seeking an individual that is passionate about developing innovative technologies to advance cutting-edge targeted therapeutics with a focus on improving efficacy, selectivity, and toxicity. This individual will be responsible for early-stage proof-of-concept and preclinical research activities to identify and evaluate novel technologies that improve upon ADC therapeutics. The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal and scientific skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply bioconjugation, protein design, and molecular biology techniques to advance novel therapeutics and our understanding of ADCs
  • Prepare antibodies and ADCs using established and experimental expression, purification, and bioconjugation methodologies
  • Characterize antibodies and ADCs using a diverse array of analytical techniques (HPLC, mass spectrometry), binding assays (ELISA, flow cytometry, BLI), and cellular activity screening (cytotoxicity, reporter assays, ADCC, ADCP)
  • Design and execute key experiments to investigate novel therapeutic technologies and enable clear go/no-go decisions
  • Independently analyze data, document results, and present findings at project and departmental meetings
  • Maintain organized and detailed experimental procedures and analytical data in an electronic laboratory notebook
  • Assist in routine maintenance of shared laboratory equipment and instruments

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 0-2 years relevant experience, or equivalent
  • Degree in relevant scientific discipline such as biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, chemical biology, structural biology, or a related field
  • Direct hands-on experience in protein engineering, protein biochemistry, bioconjugation, and/or cell-based or cell-free assay development
  • Adaptable and eager to work in a highly dynamic, flexible, fast-paced, and collaborative team environment
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to multitask
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to collaborate across teams and a variety of disciplines
  • Ability to communicate scientific results effectively to a broad range of audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of ADCs and/or therapeutic antibodies
  • Experience in relevant techniques including bioconjugation, protein analytics, flow cytometry, and/or functional screening using cellular and immunological assays
  • Experience supporting research in drug discovery and biologics within biotech/pharma industry or in academic lab setting
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture

The hiring pay range for this position is $72,000 to $94,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
