Job Description
We are looking for self-motivated individuals who are seeking an entry-level research opportunity - a one-year appointment with the possibility of a one-year extension - with an emphasis on training and the acquisition of knowledge and skills. These research associates (RAs) will join our highly collaborative and fast-paced team within The Hung Lab of Infectious Diseases. We use chemical genetics, bacterial genomics and transcriptomics, and computational biology to understand how bacteria cause human disease; how they evolve to become resistant to drugs; and how we can use this knowledge to develop more effective therapies and tests to treat and diagnose infectious diseases.
We seek RAs to support our Infectious Disease research projects with responsibilities that include bacterial strain construction and high-throughput chemical screening to identify vulnerable bacterial targets; to biochemical characterization of an antibiotic’s mechanism of action; to single-cell transcriptomic and metabolomic studies to understand the evolution of antimicrobial resistance; and leveraging CRISPR-based technologies to develop new diagnostics for infectious diseases.
In this position:
- You will gain invaluable experience – This unique research opportunity will give you access to the best technologies and sharpest minds that biomedical research has to offer. At The Broad, we work closely with a wide network of scientists, we pioneer and use state-of-the-art technology, and scientists are empowered to pursue ambitious research - it is truly an experience that is unparalleled by any other biomedical research institution.
- You will be an integral member of a fun and collaborative team - In our lab, everyone is considered an equal and critical member of the team. From research that happens in the lab to social activities outside of lab, everyone collaborates closely and has fun at the same time.
This research opportunity is particularly suited for candidates who are passionate about infectious disease research and plan to continue their scientific education in graduate and/or medical school. RAs work closely with academic trainees to design and execute bench-level experiments; present their work at lab meetings; attend seminars (and possible conferences) related to research; and contribute directly to research publications. Our goal is to foster a love for research and equip the individual with the experience and skills needed to pursue future career interests.
