The Watt AI program facilitates applications of AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence /Machine Learning)to research across Clemson University, with an emphasis on supporting undergraduate research collaborations with faculty. Creatively integrates AI/ML, data visualization, and media analytics to stimulate new insights. Serves as technology expert, instructor, and outreach lead for the Watt AI program. Other duties as assigned.
40% - Essential - AI Expansion:
Grows and expands the university's expertise in AI/ML applied to disciplines other than engineering or computing allowing Clemson to teach and prepare students prepared for today's marketplace requirements. Undertakes a leadership role in outreach, collaboration, training and engagement university-wide, with an emphasis on using IBM Watson and other AI toolboxes. Provides consultations, instruction and support to faculty, students and staff to develop, deploy, maintain and improve machine learning approaches in projects and disciplines that have not previously utilized these approaches. Maintains current skills in machine learning software, tools and approaches. Has grant and publication experience needed to partner with faculty on machine-learning related grant submissions.
35% - Essential - Experiential Learning:
Integrates AI/ML and data visualization technologies to support faculty and undergraduate students and create new experiential learning experiences. Proactively engages with campus faculty across disciplines to support research leveraging AI/ML technologies. Supports multidisciplinary projects focused on creating experiential learning experiences for students. Partners with faculty to design appropriate AI strategies. Assembles and supports teams of undergraduates, graduate students, faculty/staff, external researchers, and Watt staff.
10% - Essential - Student Project Supervision:
Hires and manages student interns. Educates and advises Creative Inquiry students in formulating, planning, and executing projects. Builds connections between faculty by connecting them with CI students for project implementation. Supports researchers from a broad range of disciplines in the integration of AI/ML. Must comply with all CI program policies and requirements, including reporting and participating in presentations. Supports student and faculty innovation activities in the integration of AI/ML, VR/AR, and media analytics. Educate students about IBM Watson and data science research methods. Supports innovative use of different forms and media for rendering data and conveying insights.
10% - Essential - Assessment and Campus-wide Coordination:
Collaborates with the Watt Center Executive Director and Associate Directors to identify technical requirements and deploy capabilities that are consistent with the needs of the University in the areas of AI/ML, data analytics and advanced data visualization, and applied virtual reality. Develops innovative ways to measure evidence-based student engagement and collaboration. Conducts assessments of the impacts of Watt Center technology use relative to experiential learning.
5% - Essential - Development:
Supports Watt Center external funding activities including interactions with potential donors/sponsors. Provides new capability leading to proposal and grant applications for new sponsored research. Support proposals and other follow-on activity.
Education: Doctoral / Professional Degree - Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
