Job Description


The College of Education, Department of Learning and Education and Elevate-Pre-K (EPK) are seeking a full-time Research Coordinator (RC) to support the implementation and coordination of a mixed methods preschool evaluation for children of families with incomes 101%-350% of the Federal Poverty Level living in Flagstaff, AZ and Page, AZ. EPK is a public preschool program that uses High Scope (HS) and Promoting Alternative Thinking Skills (PATHS) with coaching to target core cognitive, social, and self-regulation skills underlying young children’s educational success. Our team will collect and analyze data from teachers, parents/guardians, and children enrolled in the program across the academic year. This position is for approximately 40 hours of work per week, spanning from July 24, 2023, to May 31st of 2024. The RC will report directly to the principal investigator (PI) and support other team members (undergraduate and graduate students) involved with the project. The RC will be involved in a variety of tasks, but the primary responsibility is to oversee, coordinate, and facilitate the implementation of project deliverables with guidance from the principal investigator (PI).

Project Coordination and Management - 50%

  • Oversees tasks related to data collection, including liaising, emailing, and coordinating with project team members in Flagstaff, AZ and Page, AZ.
  • Organize data collection schedule and associated data collection tasks.
  • Train new staff on data collection processes and procedures.
  • Track data collection progression, monitor and track team progress.
  • Oversee data collection teams and effectiveness of units.

Direct Research Support - 30%

  • Support with preparing and administering electronic and in-person surveys.
  • Support in conducting direct assessments with children; facilitating focus groups, interviews and conducting in-class observations.
  • Help PI to prepare, develop, and review research protocols and plans for Institutional Review Board [IRB] submissions (original documents and amendments).
  • Collaborate with Project PI to ensure team adheres to established IRB protocols.
  • Process and clean data (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Run basic quantitative and qualitative analyses.

Administrative Project Support - 15%

  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, and facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Take notes during meetings and distribute notes to pertinent individuals.
  • Order materials for project completion.
  • Plan for internal team deliverables.
  • Help write grant reports and assist in drafting manuscripts.
  • Send email communication to stakeholders.
  • Assist with preparation of presentations for projects.

Other - 5%

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline.
  • Two to four years of research support experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in education or a social science (e.g., social work, psychology, sociology).
  • Experience working with children aged three to five.
  • Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Experience with publishing and reporting findings.
  • Passion and commitment to engage in a discourse of social justice and inequities.

  • Intermediate knowledge of research methods, data collection and analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of proper safety and compliance practices, related to the conduct of research.
  • Knowledge about social inequities, systemic discrimination, privilege, and oppression.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word), Zoom, Qualtrics, and SPSS.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

Background Information


This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary


Anticipated salary range is $52,000 to $55,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.


FLSA Status


This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.


Benefits


This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
