The Role
We are searching for a talented NLP applied Research Data Scientist to join our dynamic and fast-paced team in London/Bristol/Remote.
About Adarga
AdargaLabs is a brand-new applied research department within Adarga, focusing on experimenting with and incubating future-facing priority technology and feature areas in support of our Adarga Knowledge Platform. In addition to conducting applied research, we actively engage externally with our academic, scientific and customer communities. The Adarga Knowledge Platform provides organisations with powerful AI analytics technology to analyse disparate data, including unstructured information, so you can discover the deep insights with all your data to drive faster, better decisions. Natural Language Processing sits at the heart of this capability, helping to extract key knowledge and information from disparate sources of unstructured data.
Our vision is to empower us all to realise the full potential of available knowledge. Our mission is to enhance your ability to use information to make better decisions today.
We’re based in London and Bristol in the UK, with a team of over 80 people.
The Role
Data Science at Adarga is scaling to meet the growing demands of our organisation. Your role is to work as an early member of our new AdargaLabs team, researching, developing, and experimenting with innovative NLP prototypes and proofs of concept to support our core product. This team is new so you will have significant impact in establishing team ways of working and influencing the applied research priorities for the department.
Your role will be end-to-end:
-
You must be a problem solver who likes the challenge of putting together prototype features where a solution needs to be worked out. This could involve creating NLP models, simple UIs, and datasets, and using tooling such as PyTorch, SageMaker, Docker, Gradio, Flask etc.
- Researching existing applied research approaches and modifying them based on your needs
-
Defining data requirements, collecting, and annotating relevant data
-
Testing a hypothesis and refining a prototype or proof of concept
-
As well as building prototypes you will consider how best to deploy these models when they progress on to our product roadmap
- Staying on top of what is cutting edge across the field of NLP research to articulate the art of the possible to our customers and other stakeholders using cloud services such as sagemaker
Responsibilities
-
You will be building and training NLP models to perform information extraction and natural language understanding tasks
-
You will prepare and curate NLP datasets, as well as designing and managing annotation task
-
You will interact with our customers, users, and engineers, gathering relevant information to train models and articulate the performance of them, to seek industry leading results
-
This is an exciting opportunity for those who want to apply state-of-the-art R&D to real world scenarios and be challenged and grow as an NLP applied research Scientist
Essential knowledge
- A degree in STEM field (e.g., Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence or Computational Linguistics) or equivalent
-
Creativity to provide the business with new product ideas, as well as data-driven apps, insights and strategies
-
Demonstrable ability and curiosity in developing prototype machine learning models and code e.g., significant GitHub contributions, participation in Kaggle competitions, relevant university project coding experience, developing experimental Jupyter notebooks.
-
Experience in one or more core NLP and text analytics tasks and application areas (e.g., text classification, topic detection, named entity recognition, entity resolution, question answering, dialog systems, chatbots, sentiment analysis, relationship extraction, event detection, language modelling)
-
Strong track record, and ideally real-world experience in machine learning
-
Experience in Python programming
-
Experience with deep learning libraries (e.g., PyTorch, Tensorflow)
-
Understanding of recent deep learning architectures such as transformers and other modern NLP techniques
-
Experience using NLP libraries and utilities (e.g., Stanford CoreNLP, HuggingFace, spaCy, fastText, AllenNLP, PyTorch-NLP, word2vec, GloVe)
-
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders (both internal and external)
Desirable
- Experience of deploying solutions into production (e.g., using containerization, continuous integration and continuous delivery)
-
Experience in mining large-scale, multi-domain text corpora and streams
-
Experience in building and refining algorithms to find useful patterns across multi-modal data (e.g., text, conversations, and transactional data)
