Job Description
The Protein Therapeutics Department in Gilead has an opportunity for a Research Scientist to join the Protein Biochemistry Team. The scientist will produce critical proteins used by Gilead Research Teams focused on innovative Drug Discovery for Virology, Inflammation, and Oncology.
The candidate will interact closely and collaborate with Biology, Antibody Discovery, Structural and Computational Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Biophysical and Biochemical Assay within Gilead.
The scientist must work creatively, collaboratively, and in a fast-paced environment. He/she will also be encouraged to test and implement new technologies that further enhance the capabilities and/or the capacity of the Protein Biochemistry Team.
Education and Technical Skills:
Recent Ph.D. graduate in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Biology with additional 0-2 years training in Protein Biochemistry, Engineering or Evolution, Structural or Computational Biology.
A proven track record of working independently to produce quality proteins from multiple expression hosts (mammalian, insect, and bacterial cells) is desired.
Training in classical protein purification using AKTA system (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion chromatography) and protein analytical tools (SDS-PAGE analysis, Western blot, HPLC, DLS, DSF, Mass Spectrometry) is a must.
Familiarity with a range of data resources and data analysis tools essential for supporting life science research and the ability to use protein sciences computational analysis for structure prediction and construct design is preferred.
The successful candidate must have excellent communication and presentation skills and be able to work independently and as a team player.
Attention to detail, accurate record keeping, and good lab citizenship practices are essential.
The salary range for this position is: $139,145.00 - $180,070.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
