Working under the supervision of a Senior Research Assistant, Manager, or Principal Investigator and following established policies and procedures, provides assistance on genomics and bioinformatics research studies. May be responsible for the following activities: collecting and organizing sequencing and clinical data; reading literatures and presenting in the journal club or lab meetings; meeting with collaborators for project discussion; performing genomics data analysis; maintaining and updating data and code generated by the study. This is a great opportunity for a student who is looking for research experience in genomics and bioinformatics.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides assistance on omics and bioinformatics research studies as per study guidelines and protocols.
  • Collect and organize sequencing and clinical data. Responsible for collecting and maintaining genomics and sequencing data for study. May be required to input data, do analysis and run various reports. Maintains genomics and sequencing data records as part of record keeping function.
  • Read literatures and present progress in the journal club or lab meetings.
  • Meet with collaborators for project discussion.
  • Perform bioinformatics data analysis on genomics and sequencing data.
  • Maintain and update data and code generated by the study.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent data analytical skills are required for working on various research projects in the lab.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of genomics and bioinformatics.
  • Proficient in programming and maintaining data, code repository, README, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for collaborators and colleagues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS or BA in mathematics, computer science, statistics, biology, bioinformatics, or genomics
  • New graduate with relevant course or project work
  • Programming courses or experiences in R, Linux bash, Perl, Matlab, or Python.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Computer work in the office. No specific physical requirement.
