Overview:
AIR is currently seeking a Researcher to join the Learning, Translation and Quality Measurement Program in the Health division. We work to advance equitable, high-quality, affordable, patient-centered care through rigorous research, evaluation, and technical assistance that focus on what matters most to patients, families, clinicians, and the broader healthcare community.

We have a strong focus on advancing patient, family, and community engagement within U.S. healthcare systems to create patient-centered care that addresses inequities and barriers to health care for groups who have been historically excluded and marginalized. We also translate research evidence to promote understanding and adoption of best practices by patients, families, caregivers, physicians, nurses, insurers, health systems leaders, and policymakers. In addition, our expertise includes promoting evidence-based care for a range of clinical conditions; improving patient safety; and establishing measures for evaluating the quality of care.

Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations.

Responsibilities:
The responsibilities for the position include:
  • Provide technical leadership of research, implementation, evaluation, or technical assistance (TA) focused on equity-centered patient and family engagement to improve care health care quality and safety, measurement, and/or research, including providing strategic thinking, strategic project plans, research, evaluation, and/or TA designs
  • Lead and support tasks focused on conducting literature searches, qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and analysis; conducting analyses of qualitative or quantitative data; and providing technical assistance, including material and resource development
  • Prepare concise, well written, comprehensible technical reports and manuscripts describing research findings for technical and general audiences, and for clients
  • Engage in business development activities, including reviewing Requests for Proposals, cultivating relationships with potential new clients and peers, managing or writing proposals, and developing proposal budgets
  • Support collaboration among team members, providing feedback, guidance, and mentoring skill development of research assistants and associates
  • Manage budgets and timelines for projects and tasks effectively
  • Managing client relationships including on-going communicating with clients, understanding and addressing client needs and requirements, and troubleshooting client concerns
  • Contribute to dissemination activities, including presentations, conference posters, issue briefs, technical reports, and manuscripts for a variety of audiences
Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree with 0-3 years related experience or M.A., M.S., or M.P.H. or equivalent degree with 4-7 years related experience in health economics, health services research (health policy, patient engagement, measurement), social science (psychology, sociology), evaluation research, or public health (health behavior, maternal and child health)
  • Experience implementing and/or conducting research on patient and family engagement to improve care health care quality and safety, measurement, or research
  • Conducting quantitative and/or qualitative research, including research design, quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis, with experience using analytic software (e.g., STATA; SAS; R, NVivo).
  • Experience working in a grant or contract-funded environment highly desirable but not required
  • Bilingual in Spanish with experience in conducting Spanish-language interviews and focus groups is desired but not required

Skills:

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and manage feedback from multiple reviewers
  • Ability to write for a range of audiences and plain language
  • In addition to technical expertise, candidates should have demonstrated management skills, including the ability to lead small and medium sized tasks and proposals, work on teams under the leadership of other staff, and direct and mentor staff members
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds.
  • Embeds Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice practices within their research approach and conduct
  • Effective time management skills and ability to consistently meet deadlines across multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic
  • Comfortable working across a virtual/dispersed work environment

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program, is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $85,000 - $115,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
