SummaryAs an Interpreter, your dedication to each customer and their needs, superior knowledge of a second language and demonstrated cultural sensitivity makes you an important resource for non-English speaking patients and families.StatusLOCATION:DepartmentSCHEDULE:ATTRIBUTES• In lieu of a degree, equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered• Exceptional customer service and communication skills• Compassionate, kind and patient focused demeanor• Successful completion of Language Skills assessment prior to hire• National Certification preferredResponsibilities• Customer Service. Conduit for interpretation of patients’ cultural needs to service staff; interpret clinical and other interactions between patients, families and staff; translate documents and other printed materials as requested by organization, arrange with outside translation vendors as needed; on-call for patient service needs and responds in a timely manner• Time Management. Accept referrals via pager, voice mail and other methods for interpreting both emergency and scheduled interactions; prioritize requests and recommends utilization of other methods if needed; familiar with medical terminology and procedures• Development. Participate in cultural sensitivity training opportunities for organization staff relating to interactions with patients and families of various cultures; member of related committees such as Cultural Diversity and Patient EducationEducationLICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:Physical RequirementsS - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
