Assessment Manager

The Team & Position

The Assessments team seeks to empower all Rocketeers to make data-driven academic and programmatic decisions by providing an appropriate assessment suite that yields accurate, timely, and accessible data. The Assessment team manages assessment logistics and decisions to support schools across regions in planning, training and administration of state-required and other major assessments.


Reporting to the Analytics Associate Director, the Assessment Manager coordinates and manages the staff, technology, operations, and training that testing requires.  The position works directly with regional leadership, school leaders, and network support teams to program manage assessments in all regions.


The primary job responsibilities are described below.


Assessment Leadership
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to align on and increase awareness of Assessment team goals and priorities, integrate national/regional/team context into assessment plans, and effectively manage conversations and decisions on assessment-related topics. 
  • Create yearly assessment calendars in partnership with regional teams
  • Review assessment suite and confirm regional assessments are still appropriate based on curriculum
  • Own yearly assessment platform contracts


Assessment Preparation
  • Fully understand all assessment policies and requirements, review and record all relevant info from state/assessment trainings, administration manuals and other written policy/resources
  • Create work plans that include all deadlines, tasks, resources and needed collaboration for assessment administration 
  • Regularly meet with Regional Assessment Partners to review assessment plans, discuss local context and adapt support plans to regional needs and priorities
  • Collaborate and communicate with key stakeholders to prepare for assessment administration
  • Manage and maintain a system for gathering feedback on efficacy of trainings, shared resources, materials and tools for administration from a pool of key stakeholders


Assessment Trainings and Support
  • Lead in the creation and distribution of assessment administration materials
  • Support school leaders before and during testing by clearly defining their roles, communicating important assessment information, and troubleshooting when issues arise.
  • Train Site Leads, BOMs and Proctors (Test Administrators and Test Examiners) to effectively administer assessments
  • Manage and maintain a system for gathering feedback on efficacy of trainings, shared resources, materials and tools for administration from a pool of key stakeholders
  • Monitor and communicate updates on completion, test security, data/results throughout testing administration to all relevant stakeholders


Assessment Administration
  • Drive toward error-free assessment administrations with >97% participation
  • Support site leads/BOMs, proctors and regional achievement managers throughout the duration of each test administration
  • Serve as the LEA coordinator for state assessments in multiple regions, provide support and key updates on assessment execution
  • Frequent and consistent communication between Assessment team, site leads/school teams, and regional achievement managers on progress/pacing towards completion
  • Oversee testing to ensure schools are on-track and accurate administration of assessments
  • Prepare score reports and support with curating student data to be sent out upon completion of each test administration


Assessment System Support
  • Own the back end systems for various assessments (e.g. NWEA, EdCite), check those systems at regular intervals during testing windows, and handle commonly occurring issues with the help of existing documentation
  • Continuously review internal assessment systems and think critically about how to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Assessment team systems.  Create and initiate improvement plans, including relevant stakeholders as appropriate
  • Ensure assessment processes are properly documented and updated for current school year


Skills and Qualifications
  • Project management experience required. Leadership and/or coaching roles can potentially substitute for this.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail oriented and organized with strong people and process management skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills with a systems mindset
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working side-by-side with school and network leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work streams with fixed deadlines concurrently 
  • Proficient in training and leading teams across multiple locations, virtually and in person
  • Experience in education/school leadership preferred
  • Confident & clear written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Applications, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Zoom
  • Team-player attitude and strong customer-service orientation.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent health and wellness benefits, 403b retirement plan, flexible spending account (FSA), and generous paid time off.
