Associate Director of School Leader Recruitment

Position Overview


The Associate Director of School Leader Recruitment will be responsible for recruiting exceptional and diverse School Leaders and Regional Leadership staff who align with Rocketship’s core characteristics and can serve as Principals, Assistant Principals, Regional Leadership staff.  This individual will develop and refine internal and external school leader selection processes. This role will serve as a thought partner to school and regional leaders on school leader hiring and also support Regional staff hiring. Additionally, the Associate Director of School Leader Recruitment will build pipelines and partnerships to ensure a diverse applicant pool and design equitable practices to ensure our hiring practices promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.  This position will report to the Sr. Director of Recruitment. 


This remote position must be based in a Rocketship region (Bay Area, CA, Nashville, TN, Milwaukee, WI, DC, or Fort Worth, TX).


School Leader Selection and Hiring
  • Manage full cycle recruiting and hiring of talented leaders across all Rocketship regions
  • Partner with regional leaders and hiring managers to identify and plan for recruitment needs, succession and workforce planning
  • Foster alignment of recruitment messaging and outreach across Rocketship
  • Ensure candidate statuses are updated  in the applicant tracking system  and track recruitment metrics to evaluate and improve hiring efficiency
  • Plan and facilitate recruitment and selection events such as interview days, information sessions, open houses and job fairs
  • Source candidates using various tools such as Linked In Recruiter and Indeed and conducting phone screens. 
  • Ensuring that the selection process is equitable and candidates have a positive experience throughout the recruitment/selection processes 
  • Partner with school and regional leaders to create offers and close successful candidates
  • Ensure that all pre-hire processes are completed efficiently, such as reference checks, background checks etc.
  • Review hiring related metrics and make recommendations for continuous improvement 
  • Manage the matching and placement process of candidates at campuses
  • Ensure that opportunities are widely advertised.


Selection Design
  • Design competency-based interview questions and selection processes for leadership positions, ensuring they are job related 
  • Ensure alignment between the Rocketship model,  instruction and screening activities.
  • Develop performance tasks that are job related 
  • Review trends in selection data and outcomes to inform selection design
  • Train and coach hiring managers on hiring best practices
  • Design and revise approach to integrate best practices for virtual and in-person interviews


Internal Recruitment and Selection
  • Manage internal advertising  for current staff
  • Partner with network and regional leaders to conduct outreach to internal candidates
  • Review internal candidate data and current practice to inform selection
  • Provide feedback to internal applicants following the interview process
  • Track internal completion of leadership development programs in collaboration with the Talent Development team


Sourcing, Cultivation, and Partnerships
  • Develop and expand knowledge of the local educational landscape and Identify and maintain partnerships with key recruitment pipeline organizations  in each region
  • Utilize “outside the box” techniques to source candidates through the use of the internet, social media, and other online resources, referrals, etc. 
  • Attend job fairs, conferences, and other events  to promote Rocketship opportunities
  • Lead contractors and search firms in providing additional search services as needed


Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge & Skills
  • Outstanding communication, follow through, and relationship-building skills to inspire top educators to join Rocketship Education
  • Strong eye for talent in the education sector
  • Deep knowledge of instruction and ability to assess instructional skill of candidates
  • Track record of collaborative leadership and managing through influence
  • Experience leading initiatives to promote diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Detail-oriented and able to design scalable systems and tools
  • Experience using data to inform practice and drive decision making
  • Knowledge of effective use of search engines, job sites, social networks, and other tools preferred
  • Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in urban K-12 education required
  • 2+ years of school leader experience (e.g. principal, AP, instructional coach, dean) required
  • Previous experience in HR, recruitment, selection, or other human capital work is strongly preferred

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% time. This travel typically occurs in the second half of the school year.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent health and wellness benefits, 403b retirement plan, flexible spending account (FSA), and generous paid time off.
