Position Description

The Manager, School & Leadership Support plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success of Rocketship DC’s regional relaunch, with a specific focus on improving truancy rates, enhancing attendance, and providing critical administrative support to our leadership team. This position is instrumental in driving systemic change across our three schools located in Wards 5, 7, and 8, and in supporting the executive team in their mission to deliver outstanding educational outcomes.


The following are roles and responsibilities related to the role:


Truancy & Attendance
  • Monitors attendance and assists with various attendance procedures via daily phone calls and home visits;
  • Engages in daily absence verifications in accordance with established attendance policies and procedures;
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance; prepares and maintains a variety of records, files, and reports regarding student attendance, tardiness, truancy, suspension and discipline;
  • Communicates with students and parents regarding attendance and related issues;
  • Provides student attendance information to staff, parents, and authorities as requested;
  • Interprets and enforces policies and regulations regarding school attendance;
  • Prepares correspondence pertaining to student attendance and records as appropriate;
  • Prepares accurate attendance information and required documents and materials for mediation, parent meetings, truancy interventions, and potentially law enforcement where necessary; 
  • Refers serious attendance problems according to established procedures; assists in identifying and resolving problems of students with frequent absenteeism;


Scheduling & Support
  • Provides a wide range of complex office administration and support to the executive leadership team;
  • Serves as principal administrative contact and liaison with all executive-team members, constituents and external contacts, typically including government and media agencies;
  • Develops, implements and administers departmental office systems and procedures;
  • Establishes office procedures, policies and operations;
  • Interprets and communicates policies and processes;
  • Reviews, assesses, routes, answers and monitors follow up action steps on correspondence;
  • Gathers and analyzes information required for administrative reporting.
  • Provides wide ranges of support including: keyboarding, composing and editing letters, memoranda, reports, lecture/course materials, presentations, cases.
  • Uses multiple technical applications including word processing, database management, spreadsheets, graphics and presentation software, electronic calendar, email, internet, and other technical/scientific applications (ex. web maintenance)
  • Serves as principal contact and source of information for customers of the department, including faculty, students, staff and external partners;
  • Manages complex calendars, arranges for meetings, appointments and travel arrangements;
  • Coordinates events, including conferences, seminars, and colloquia.
  • Purchases and maintains inventory of supplies for the office;
  • Performs library/research work and summarizes findings.
  • Creates and maintains filing system(s);
  • Answers and routes phone calls, mail and e-mail messages and may handle wide-range information dissemination;


Skills & Experience
  • Five plus years related experience with proven office administration and customer service skills required. 
  • Solid working knowledge of office processes and business policy development, and of related computer software and electronic communications tools.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with experience providing complex administrative support in a high-profile environment with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work across teams and with a variety of projects and constituencies.


$62,500 - $62,500 a year

The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally climb ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.


Compensation:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent health and wellness benefits, 403b retirement plan, flexible spending account (FSA), and generous paid time off.
