As a Senior Systems Engineer for the Advance Battle Management System (ABMS) Network Developer Program in the C2BM Engineering Department, you will work with a strong team to help lead the definition, management, and validation of requirements and technical baselines for a rapidly evolving, mission-critical networking solution. Your focus will be on Systems Engineering as it relates to network architecture, policy-as-code principles, and model-based engineering. You will collaborate closely with software, network automation, and infrastructure teams to ensure that the ABMS DI Network meets its operational goals under real-world constraints and that delivered solutions align with CI/CD practices and RMF requirements.
What You Will Do
• Technical Baseline & Requirements
• Analyze, decompose, and manage network and systems requirements in alignment with ABMS’s architectural objectives
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure requirements incorporate policy-as-code and automation considerations, enabling intent-based infrastructure and continuous delivery
• Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE)
• Update and refine the system’s SysML model to reflect changing design elements, including network components and software services
• Facilitate model integration with network-specific data models (e.g., YANG, OpenAPI) to support policy-driven configuration of routers, switches, and firewalls
• Configuration Management & Traceability
• Oversee technical baselines in coordination with Configuration Management, maintaining full traceability across network architecture, requirements, and test artifacts
• Track and confirm requirement sell-off through both manual and automated testing, ensuring delivered solutions meet the defined standards
• CI/CD & Automated Testing Integration
• Work with development and test teams to ensure CI/CD pipelines support automated deployment and validation of network services, security policies, and system updates
• Partner with QA/Test engineering to define automated test cases that confirm network performance, resiliency, and RMF compliance
• Engineering Process & Standards
• Serve as the primary point of contact for process, plans, standards, and policy inquiries, with a particular focus on alignment to DoD security frameworks like RMF
• Provide input on ROI and impact analysis for network automation tooling and policy-as-code initiatives, supporting broader engineering trade studies
• Collaboration & Integration
• Coordinate developers to ensure stable builds and helping to build automated verification solutions to enable successful integration (SWIT) of new features
Qualifications You Must Have
• Experience performing requirement creation and management for a technical program, ideally with network or communications components
• Background in network architecture, complex system integration, or network engineering concepts
• Experience with DOORS/DOORS Next Gen or a similar requirements management tool, including an understanding of requirement sell-off
• Ability to interpret and create high-level test objectives for complex systems, including network and infrastructure validation
• Experience operating in Agile workflows, including the use of Jira
• Travel up to one week per quarter is anticipated
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
• Active and transferable U.S. Government SECRET clearance is required prior to start date
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
• Familiarity with DoD security standards and the Risk Management Framework (RMF)
• Security+ or equivalent certification
• Experience developing SysML models for complex systems
• Previous work on programs with complex network design or SD-WAN implementations
• Exposure to policy-as-code concepts (e.g., GitOps, Terraform, or Ansible playbooks) and the ability to define requirements that leverage network automation and policy-driven configuration
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and automated testing frameworks
• Understanding of YANG-based or intent-based configuration approaches for large-scale infrastructure
• Knowledge of OpenAPI or other API modeling frameworks is helpful
• Competency in evaluating cost/benefit (ROI) analysis for advanced network automation or monitoring solutions
What We Offer
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance
• Three weeks of vacation for newly hired employees
