About the role:

You will be a Founding Software Engineer focused on Developer Experience to improve how developers understand and interact with Rye's APIs.

Our ideal candidate is an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer passionate about contributing to the codebase, creating engaging demos, and writing documentation - primarily solving developer usability problems through software solutions. This role is suited for someone who loves solving developer problems, infusing creativity into their work, and has a strong sense of API design. We expect this role to be 60% developing software and 40% working directly with our developer customers, the internal engineering team, and the business team.

Joining our fully remote team, you'll have the chance to use your technical expertise to enable developers to integrate faster and shape the future of Rye's API. Your contributions will be crucial in improving how developers understand and interact with Rye's APIs. An example is building new SDKs and boilerplate examples for Rye.

Our systems are built around internet commerce: product data, order placement, tracking orders, returns, and inventory. We use best-in-class tooling - GraphQL API Gateway, gRPC for service to service communication, Typescript Node.js services built with NestJS. We use React and Remix for the frontend.

About Rye:

Rye is a set of commerce APIs that enables developers to profit from selling any product, without the complexities of inventory ownership, order fulfillment, or logistics. We want to transform online commerce to allow purchases to be made directly inside of apps without redirects.

What you'll do:

• Build high-quality APIs and SDKs for our developer customers

• Collaborate with the internal engineering team to simplify the API and develop features that enhance developer experience

• Create boilerplate examples and SDKs for various programming languages to help developers get started with Rye quickly

• Act as customer zero, ensuring our documentation meets the reader's needs and enhances their experience using our products

• Create high-quality, engaging, and clear documentation that effectively communicates complex technical concepts

• Build scalable demos and tools to showcase the functionalities and use cases of Rye's products

• Utilize exceptional storytelling skills to articulate the value and intricacies of our technology to a diverse audience

• Collaborate with various teams to enhance the developer experience

• Deliver exceptional and proactive developer support

• Work independently with a remote-first team
  
  

What we're looking for:

• 2+ years of experience in full stack engineering, particularly using TypeScript, Node.js, and other relevant technologies to write production code

• Strong understanding of best practices in software development and engineering

• Good taste in API design

• Background in writing technical docs or a portfolio of written content (e.g. personal blog, published articles) with a strong interest in helping developers succeed

• Strong ability to craft clear and compelling technical narratives

• Adept at simplifying complex technical topics for a broad audience

• Experience building systems with a GraphQL API and a gRPC backend system

• Passion for helping people develop an accurate mental model of how our technology works

• Ability to quickly build a rapport and become a trusted advisor
