Safety Assistant Job Description
Hood Container Corporation is seeking a leader and a change agent to join our team as a Safety Assistant in our Louisville, KY plant. We’re looking for someone that has a passion for maintaining the safety and health of our employees and our community’s environment. Under the direction of the Operations Director and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for implementing the Company’s safety policies and serve as a key liaison between management and the production team.
Job Overview: The Safety Assistant will support the ongoing development and maintenance of training, safety, and environmental programs including but not limited to: performing routine job safety analyses, building safety inspections, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Program, Hazard Communication Program, Personal Protective Equipment Program, and maintaining training documentation.
Responsibilities for Safety Assistant

Assist in maintaining safety guidelines, procedures, and policies.

Able to effectively communicate both safety and environmental training topics.

Assist in ensuring and monitoring regulatory issues.

Provide initial new-hire safety training and follow-up interaction for new employees

Assists the company with accident management and prevention.

Maintain and file documentation needed for reporting to controlling agencies.

Report safety and environmental issues to the Safety Manager/EHS Manager

The Safety Assistant retains the ability to halt company functions, proving unsafe.

The Safety Assistant oversees the facility with safety as the focus.

Enforces safety guidelines through effective disciplinary action as per each individual case.

Qualifications for Safety Assistant

Bachelor's degree in health and safety or a related field may be preferred

Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Understanding of federal, state, and city safety requirements, including OSHA

Able to work independently as well as within a team.

Ability to train all levels of the organization.

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines

Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and project managers

Leadership skills, such as the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback
