Summary: Safety Securement Specialists perform office work on a daily basis essential to the operations of Melton Truck Lines. They are responsible for the training and counseling of drivers and make decisions on how and when to retrain or terminate employment based on performance standards. Safety Supervisors observe and report on the progress and performance of drivers daily. They evaluate drivers with problems or situations relating to fuel conservation, collisions, load securement, CSA (Compliance Safety Accountability), and Department of Transportation FMCSA compliance. They are responsible for coordinating and implementing daily and annual training (Medical Card and Logbook Inspections, Hazmat & DOT Rules and Regulations, Commentary Check Rides). Contribute and assist in managing Safety Campaigns, participate in Daily Safety meeting instruction, and monitor and manage safety technology/programs like Omnitracs, Safety Direct, AS400, RAIR, DriveCam, Critical Event Recording, Lane Departure Warning, Melton Mentors, Road Trainer Program, Safety Trainers, as required. Smith System Certifications required, and CDL A required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties as assigned.
Uses independent judgement to inspect drivers, trucks and loads on the Tulsa yard.
Counsels, observes and reports on progress and performance of drivers in specialized areas on a daily basis.
Reviews safety violations and reviews with Operations and Safety personnel as well as drivers.
Uses their extensive knowledge of transportation to ensure all drivers are following the laws as it pertains to fuel, collisions, load securement and compliance.
Monitors and manages safety/technology programs like Omnitracs, Safety Direct, DriveCam, Critical Event Recording, Lane Departure Warning.
Manages Load Securement hotline to provide direct feedback and coaching to drivers to ensure the safety and securement of all Melton loads.
Coordinates and implements daily and annual training (Inspections, Hazmat & DOT Rules and Regulations, Commentary Check Rides, Smith System).
Completes Remedial Driver Coaching using Smith System on accidents and coordinates with Claims on “Preventability”, and documents outcomes.
Manages safety programs such as, Melton Mentors, Melton Safety Trainer, Melton Road Trainers, and SWAT.
Regular onsite job attendance is required to facilitate effective interaction with others.
Has contact with the following documents: DOT and personnel files including applications, employment verifications, IEG files, and road tests/certifications; AS400 driver history files; logs; termination reports; and performance reviews.
Has the ability to influence an employee’s continuing employment based on performance standards.
Education and/or Experience: high school diploma and some business training (at least 1 year) required. Minimum 5 years flatbed experience. Bilingual ability in Spanish is beneficial.
Special Training: Needs to be familiar with computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and Innovative AS400 System.
Special Skills: Needs to be very experienced driving a tractor-trailer and securing loads. Must be able to communication clearly and be comfortable with public speaking. Also needs be able to handle stressful situations and pay close attention to detail.
Physical Demands: It is necessary to talk, hear, sit, write, type, walk, and move with a free range of motion. It is occasionally necessary to lift up to 90 lbs.
