Sales Trainer

Overview:
We are hiring a Sales Trainer to help create world-class sales learning programs in a high-growth tech environment. As a Sales Trainer at Avalara, you will help us get there by teaching sales employees as they continue to grow. The Sales Trainer develops, plans, coordinates, and delivers training, onboarding and development programs designed to meet organizational needs for all sales-related employees. The Sales Trainer will conduct ongoing training workshops and sessions for the existing sales staff and sales management team to foster retention of subject matter and continued learning. You will be aiding in the training process end-to-end including needs analysis, content development, training delivery, communication, optimization, and outcome assessment.
Responsibilities:
  • Deliver advanced training through in person, virtual, and blended training to meet the various needs of the Enterprise Sales, Customer Account Management, and Partner Sales organization, including Senior Leadership. Training events can include new hire, advanced skills, career progression readiness, and individual or team performance support.
  • Manage all aspects of classroom preparation including creating/distributing agendas, learning materials, scheduling invitations, managing rosters, scorecards and other requirements as needed.
  • Deep knowledge of tools and software and how they can be facilitated to improve sales / identify optimizations.
  • Mentor and coach learners/employees through shadow sessions and 1:1 training.
  • Identify training gaps and create a needs analysis with all stakeholders to ensure training needs are met.
  • Proactively identify required curriculum enhancements and changes to meet the evolving needs of the department and then make the required changes in a timely manner.
  • Proactively evaluate Sales training programs & assets for effectiveness and collaborate with key stakeholders to develop a roadmap for iteration and program enhancements.
  • Collect and share feedback from trainees for the purposes of self-development and program enhancements.
  • Ability to adapt various facilitation styles to accommodate classroom, virtual, group, and 1:1 environments.
  • Conduct skill gap analysis to identify training needs.
  • Deliver ongoing training for existing business managers and sales reps.
  • Track and report metrics that summarize results and model outputs, suitable for multiple audiences.
  • Manage the structure and organization of training material in various knowledge management systems.
  • Proactively ensure the latest messaging, product capabilities, new systems and processes are integrated into applicable training programs.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of sales training experience or successful track record of outside sales experience; preferably in technical sales.
  • Advanced knowledge of/experience in applying learning theories, needs analysis, learning strategy, and principles including adult learning theory.
  • Experience in designing, developing and delivering training material for instructor lead, virtual, and blended training.
  • Experience in analyzing a business problem and working with multiple stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop a solution to resolve it.
  • Familiarity around sales methodologies and solutions sales processes and strategy.
  • Excellent communication (written/verbal) and facilitation skills including stand-and-deliver presentation skills, with the ability to assimilate complex concepts and clearly articulate business value.
  • Ability to drive the ideation, design and delivery of field sales training solutions in close collaboration with a range of partners.
  • Strong customer focus and should be able to collaborate with users to understand and anticipate their needs and translate them into training requirements.
  • Experience tracking, managing and displaying KPIs and training metrics in a manner that creates actionable information.
  • Ability to build effective partnerships and exhibit positive impact on business objectives.
  • Experience working with current training technology and multimedia tools and applications.
  • Manage information in a visually appealing and easy to understand method.
  • Ability to quickly absorb complex issues, ensure alignment across cross-functional teams.

We’re opening this role to candidates located in commuting distance from our Durham, NC office as this will be a hybrid role.
