Job SummaryTutoring Russian language Essential Responsibilities and Duties · Tutor SLCC students taking First and Second Semester Russian (Russian 1010,1020,2010,2020,1900,2900) both in-person at the Center for Languages and on Zoom.• Assist students with understanding and leveraging their course’s instructional materials and assignments, and with on-line language-learning programs as needed.• Establish and maintain tutoring hours throughout the semester / academic year.· Attend CfL meetings, complete required trainings, and consistently follow protocols for scheduling, checking in / out, time submission, communicating unavoidable absences, etc.• Help organize and host cultural events along with other tutors and / or language faculty.· Participate in CfL activities, possibly including occasional brief, informal cultural presentations to other tutors, students and faculty.• Host weekly or biweekly conversation tables for speakers of the target language in the CfL depending on demand. With the support of the CfL director, identify and reach out to community groups, SLCC’s International and ESL students, and SLCC faculty and staff to create awareness of the conversation table and to generate reasonable attendance.Other duties as assigned. For example, you will be expected to create a 2-3 minute video at the beginning of every semester, to introduce yourself to the students in the language class.It will to be put on the language instructor’s Canvas site and will make students more willing to meet with you Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalentCurrent student of SLCC.Native or near native fluency in Russian as demonstrated through online proficiency testing in the CfL.Familiarity with Russian cultures.Preferred Qualifications Current student of SLCC. Must maintain a 3.0 GPA.Language teaching or tutoring experience.Availability to attend the SLCC classes in the target language in conjunction with the approval of the course instructor.Attending classes will increase your familiarity with course materials and teaching methods. The instructor will expect you to work with students during class time, which is also good preparation for tutoring.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Tutors are expected to observe the SLCC Student Code of Conduct.Reliability, timeliness and attention to detail.Good computer skills.Increasing knowledge of Russian 1010 and 1020, 2010,2020 and other russian language related including teaching methods and the course textbook, materials, and assignments.Increasing competence in tutoring, focusing on textbook integration, identifying student level of competence, and tailoring instruction to the student level, needs, and instructor expectations.Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties Some front desk work if needed.Last updated : 2024-08-22
