Role Overview
As a Head of Engineering, you’ll report to our CTO and you will be responsible for overseeing all engineering activities within the company. This includes leading cross-functional engineering teams, ensuring the successful delivery of software products, maintaining technical excellence, and collaborating with other departments to align engineering goals with business objectives. 

Our tech stack is mainly on Java and Typescript and it’s hosted in the AWS infrastructure where we use a wide variety of AWS services.

Your mission:

  • Leadership & Management.

    • Lead, mentor, and grow a diverse team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

    • Define and implement engineering best practices and processes to ensure high-quality product development and delivery.

    • Provide technical leadership and guidance on software architecture, design, and implementation.

    • Conduct regular performance reviews, set objectives, and develop career development plans for team members.

  • Strategic Planning.

    • Collaborate with the executive team to define the company’s technology strategy and roadmap.

    • Translate business goals into actionable engineering plans and deliverables.

    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with engineering activities, ensuring timely and within-budget project delivery.

  • Product Development.

    • Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle of fintech products, from concept to deployment and beyond.

    • Ensure the scalability, security, and robustness of the technology infrastructure.

    • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, incorporating relevant innovations into the company’s products.

  • Collaboration & Communication.

    • Work closely with product management, design, and other departments to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.

    • Facilitate effective communication within the engineering team and across the organization.

    • Represent the engineering team in executive meetings, providing updates on project status, challenges, and successes.

  • Quality & Performance.

    • Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the performance and effectiveness of the engineering team.

    • Implement quality assurance processes to maintain the highest standards of software quality.

    • Continuously improve the efficiency and productivity of the engineering team through process optimization and tooling.

Your ideal profile:

  • Relevant education and technical background. You have a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with extensive experience in Software Engineering.

  • Leadership in engineering teams. You have a proven track record of leading engineering teams of 90+ engineers at consumer-focused companies, fostering best engineering practices and a collaborative, growth-oriented culture.

  • Microservices and Agile methodologies. You are experienced with microservices infrastructure and Agile methodologies, driving the implementation of scalable, reliable, and efficient systems. 

  • Cloud and Technologies. Experience with cloud computing (AWS is a plus) and proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Java Python, etc.)

  • Focus on simplicity and quality. You have a preference for simple solutions and an obsession with quality, ensuring robust and maintainable code.

  • Structured communication and stakeholder management. You are willing to embrace new challenges and can communicate in a structured and convincing manner, adapting your style to build trust with various stakeholders in a positive and professional way.

  • Language proficiency. You are fluent in Italian and English.

  • Passion for scale-up environments. You thrive in dynamic, fast-paced settings and are enthusiastic about contributing to the growth and innovation of a scale-up company.
