General Summary:
The Scheduling Specialist obtains demographic, clinical and financial insurance information during the process of making appointments for patient test and procedures. Performs pre-registration activities and initiates, evaluates and responds to results of real-time eligibility verification. The Scheduling Specialist provides instructions to the patient on test preparation; prints and mails patient itineraries if lead time is sufficient. Validates medical necessity / Local/National Coverage Determinations (LCD/NCD) of requested cases to support clinical and financial clearance functions. Initiates reschedule of appointments, when appropriate. Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital. Other Duties as Assigned.

Responsibilities:
-
Minimum of two (2) years' experience within a healthcare provider and/or payer environment performing appointment/centralized scheduling activities in a hospital, physician office and or medical facility, preferable. Experience in performing Patient Access activities is a plus. Familiarity with third party/insurance payers, medical terminology and ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred.

Must be able to perform audit functions in a concise, timely and professional manner to include: data retrieval and review; error identification and correction; documentation and display of data in a concise, understandable format; identification of trends; and recommendation of process/system improvements.

Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently.

Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.

Must be able to manage multiple workplaces demands and set realistic and attainable priorities related to such.

Exceptional communication (written and oral) with the ability to convey complicated information to customers. Fluency in both English and Spanish preferred. Interpersonal skills are necessary in dealing with internal and external customers, including the ability to interpret customer requirements, recommend and take action to satisfy the customer’s needs.
