We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Accountant to join corporate accounting team. This role could be located at our corporate office in Milwaukee, WI or Chicago, IL (Near O’Hare). In this role you will own the general ledger for assigned accounts. The Sr. Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting, providing accounting support and guidance for complex business transactions, driving the completion of the client’s annual report, and ensuring consistency in the application of global accounting policies. The Sr. Accountant will act as a business partner for key stakeholders, with a focus on driving process improvements, resolving business challenges, and evaluating the impact of new business initiatives.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate accounting for assigned accounts, including preparation of journal entries and monthly account reconciliations.
  • Provide accounting support and guidance for complex business transactions such as acquisitions, integration activities, reserves, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of position papers for ad hoc technical accounting issues, as well as develop project plans, determine the impact of transactions to the business, and interact with key members of the business / third parties.
  • Work collaboratively with business contacts to identify and drive process improvements, resolve business challenges, and provide financial information to key stakeholders to assist in making business decisions.
  • Proactively work with the global accounting team to ensure consistency in application of accounting practices.
  • Coordinate complex cross-functional accounting projects and initiatives.
  • Drive the preparation of the annual client’s financial statements, including disclosures and supporting schedules, in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Prepare SOX controls.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting and or financial analysis experience.
  • Good leadership, communication, and organization skills.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, including experience performing technical accounting research and analysis
  • SAP experience a plus.
  • Ability to work without constant direction and communicate with and understand non-accounting focused individuals and processes.
  • Big4 audit experience is a must – preferably at least one busy season as a senior. Would consider someone recently promoted to senior if they have a strong resume and were assuming senior duties, etc.
  • Looking for someone who can think critically about processes, has a change mindset, and is able to work with a variety of stakeholders to get a process completed
  • Job would require both day-to-day activities as well as longer term projects that involve a lot of interaction with the various businesses within the organization.
  • Technical research, familiar with GAAP reporting; handful of reoccurring tasks that are highly technical; ability to focus on details and bigger picture
  • See a wide range of business questions. Any highly technical questions are routed through our team, with a lot of focus on revenue, leasing, derivatives, pension, goodwill, acquisitions/divestitures, purchase accounting processes, etc. Tasks areas are allocated between members of the team, but a lot of opportunity to learn different areas of the business.

  • Willing to jump in and learn, focus on helping the business and develop the team

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
