Senior Catastrophe Risk Analyst - job 2 of 2

The role-holder supports our reinsurance business sourced from the APAC region. The role covers all aspects of treaty pricing, tool development, acquisition of market knowledge, development of benchmark analysis, and natural catastrophe-related initiatives. Job dimensions include both technical and client facing opportunities to work closely with internal and external stakeholders, such as underwriters, pricing actuaries, risk managers, brokers, clients, and model vendors.


Key duties and responsibilities

  • Delivering natural catastrophe analytics and treaty pricings of reinsurance transactions and internal retrocessions to business stakeholders, using vendor models and internally developed tools
  • Responsibility for the accumulation control of allocated APAC markets
  • Development of studies to improve pricing and modelling parameters and to evaluate the profitability of various segments of business
  • Support of the development of actuarial tools and methods, including data analytics
  • Appropriate utilisation of pricing and evaluation tools
  • Networking on natural catastrophe subjects, both internal and external
  • Contribution to growth and profitability
  • Reporting of pricing and expected profitability for the Underwriting department
  • Active participation in APAC market initiatives
  • Close collaboration with the underwriting team, including attending and travelling to client and broker meetings
  • Pricing, data analytics, and product development services for our clients
  • Interaction with Reserving to assure that the output of the pricing process is reflected initially in Reserving and included in the management reports
  • Internal trainings for junior staff and new joiners of other departments
  • All other miscellaneous responsibilities as required by management

Duration

  • This will be a 12 months contract subject to an extension

Required experience & competencies

Experience:

  • Five or more years of natural catastrophe and/or treaty experience, preferably with exposure in the regional office of an international reinsurance company
  • Experience with APAC property business
  • Experience in using AIR and/or RMS modelling software is required
  • Good communication skills and experience working with underwriters and clients
  • Practical work/programming experience in MS Excel, VBA, R, Python, etc.
  • Proficiency in data mining and machine learning programming using one or various software such as R, Python will be a plus

Personal Competences:

  • Strong pragmatic problem solving capabilities
  • Good team spirit, inter-personal competency

Required Education

  • University degree in a technical discipline that requires strong analytical and statistical know how (Geology, Meteorology, Engineering, Mathematics, …)
  • Willingness to pursue fellowship or equivalent in an internationally recognized actuarial association (CAS, FIA, …) is a plus
