Senior Control Systems Engineer

Summary
As a Control System Plant Engineer, you will design, develop, install, manage, and/or maintain equipment used to control and monitor systems, instrumentation, equipment, and processes. You will also ensure these systems and processes operate efficiently, reliably, and safely.
  • The Plant Control Systems Engineering Group is a team of cyber security and controls engineers dedicated to supporting all PGE’s generation plants. The generation plants we work with include hydro, thermal, wind, and solar.
  • We are looking for a Senior Control Systems Plant Engineer in the Portland area who is excited about working for a utility company and bringing their experience to the team.

Qualifications:
What you Bring
  • Valid driver's license
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred)
  • Five (5) or more years of recent and verifiable experience in DCS, PLC, and HMI programming and systems integration in industrial applications using various software platform
    • Allen-Bradley (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, FactoryTalk View ME/SE)
    • GE (Mark Vie)
    • Emerson platforms (Ovation)
  • Experience with using hardware by Rockwell Automation, Emerson, and/or GE
  • Experience in instrumentation and controls (I&C)
  • Understanding of engineering documentation such as P&IDs, flow diagrams, and electrical schematics
  • General knowledge of networking and communication protocols such as but not limited to: EtherNet, Modbus, EtherCAT, DeviceNet, and DH+
  • Experience in creating and designing automation control systems
  • Experience in creating project documentation to meet client’s and project requirements
  • Experience with diagnosing automation problems and interacting with teams, internal clients, and vendors
  • Experience with configuring software and hardware packages according to internal client design needs
  • Experience with communicating with project stakeholders the progress relative to the plan
  • Experience with managing engineering projects, project deliverables to the agreed schedule and scope, construction and installation, and start-up support of integrated control systems
  • Experience with validating and commissioning facility systems following established execution protocols and ensuring a successful turnover of the system to the internal client
  • Experience with completing projects within a budget
  • Experience with control system components and use a bill of materials to meet project requirements adhering to UL 508A, IEEE, and NEC standards
  • Willingness to work a variable schedule, report to work, and perform work during periods of severe inclement weather
  • Valid driver’s license for frequent (at least once a week or more), occasional (one to two times a month or less) overnight inside/outside the service territory
Responsibilities
Production
  • Designs, develops, and manages generation plant control systems, instrumentation, and other related equipment and machinery
  • Creates and maintains plant control system DCS and PLC network plans
  • develops procedures and job aids for the design, configuration, operation, and maintenance of the system
  • Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects
  • Coordinates multiple discipline activities
  • Reviews the work of other engineers
Project Coordination
  • Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects, including representing the team to interdepartmental stakeholders
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates projects with complex design, construction, operation, maintenance, or testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs of hydro, wind, and thermal plants
  • Provides accurate capital budget and job estimates
Engineering Standards
  • Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices
  • Provides guidance and direction on engineering processes and standards to colleagues as requested
Knowledge Sharing
  • Trains and mentors junior engineers and technicians
  • Identifies training and testing requirements for new and complex control systems
  • Provides guidance to other engineers, plant technicians, draftsmen, designers, and less experienced colleagues on new systems and applications
  • Serves as a technical specialist
  • Provides consultation/guidance to project teams in a particular practice area
  • Implements resource-management strategy

Compensation Range:
$92,550.00 - $154,250.00
In addition, this position is eligible for a performance-based incentive bonus. Actual total compensation is commensurate with experience, skills, and education
