Senior Data Engineer

Job Summary
The Senior Data Engineer is a highly technical person that hands-on codes data processing solutions and scalable data pipelines to support analytics and exploratory analysis. This role ensures new business requirements are decomposed and implemented in cohesive end to end designs that enable data integrity and quality and best supports BI and analytic capability needs that power decision making at Surescripts. This includes building data acquisition programs that handle the business’s growing data volume as part of the Data Lake and Data Warehouse ecosystem, along with maintaining a robust data catalog.
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for contributing to the continual improvement of the business’s data and analytic solutions, processes and data engineering capabilities. This person embraces industry best practices and trends and through acquired knowledge, drives process and system improvement opportunities.
The Senior Data Engineer is part of a team who will partner with data and software engineers, BI professionals, Quality Assurance, Product Owners, business analysts, architects, and others across teams to achieve project and business goals.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement data pipelines that collect, connect, centralize, and curate data from various data sources to support analytic capabilities
  • Build and implement solutions that support automation, data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
  • Perform and participate in the full software development lifecycle including providing estimates, iterations on designs, working code, design reviews, code reviews, testing, deployment, and monitoring to ensure system quality and reliability
  • Interpret business needs and rapidly implements effective technical solutions
  • Create technical design documents and supporting materials
  • Participate in the designs of data infrastructure for scalability, availability, reliability
  • Provide thought leadership to embrace modern data science and data analytics practices as a critical enabler for business outcomes
  • Participate in the evaluation of new technologies for continuous improvement
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of computer science, management information systems, or computer engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in a data management or data engineering roles
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines
  • Experience manipulating, processing and extracting value from datasets for analytic consumption
  • Technically fluent in current tools and platforms for development, configuration, integration, data storage, cloud management
  • Experience with hands on Python, and/or Java
  • Experience in data processing optimizations
  • Strong SQL and using SQL to build data pipelines in BigQuery and Bigdata environments
  • Knowledge of Data Integration, Data Lake, Data Warehouse, BI and analytic capabilities and concepts
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and/or external data and processes to answer specific business questions, troubleshoot, and support solutions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineering with Hadoop technologies
  • Experience with high volume data processing
  • Experience with scheduling and workload automation technology
  • Experience with Bigquery
  • Experience with data catalogs
  • Experience with related information management disciplines (e.g. data quality management, master data management, metadata management, data governance, warehousing, BI and analytics)
  • Experience with health care data
  • Experience with Agile

At Surescripts, base pay is one part of our Total Rewards Package (which may also include bonus, benefits etc.) and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this position is $119,633 - $146,218 per year. Your base pay may vary within or outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) your qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
