Mission for the position:

Leap’s business model and market position – as a platform provider to growing, modern consumer brands (who develop, market and sell products across many categories), landlords from local independent retail real estate asset owners to the largest asset owners in the world, operating stores that enable seamless transactions across physical retail and ecommerce channels in an ever expanding set of local markets – results in the accrual of a unique, rapidly expanding file of data on customers, transactions, products, real estate, and more. Every brand and every store added to our network increases the rate of growth of our file.

As a Senior Data Scientist you will develop predictive models, conduct ad-hoc analysis and experimentation on our data, and serve as a key stakeholder in the development of our data platform. As an expert on machine learning and applied data science, you'll work closely with our engineering, analytics, product, and Leadership teams to help them make data-driven decisions across the business. You'll also regularly pair with our Product and MLOps teams to truly automate applied ML solutions into our testable, monitorable software platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Discover, craft and translate key business questions into models and analyses that lead to insights that can inform and drive decisions across the business – from brand and store location selection to merchandise mix and inventory operation optimization, store fleet and store level operational configuration optimization, and more
  • Leverage cutting edge tools/models and best practice approaches to address unsolved/ novel business problems i.e. “big, hairy, unsolved problems” such as determining which brand(s) will outperform peers/competitors, determining which product category and brand will perform best in each local market and/or a particular store location, and more.
  • Perform ad-hoc data experimentation that supports strategic growth and leadership initiatives
  • Work closely with business stakeholders in commercial functions such as business development and partnerships, real estate, customer success, retail operations and store development, accounting & finance and People (talent acquisition, talent development, and more)
  • Obtain and integrate data from new sources to help expand the breadth and depth of our analyses and resulting insights
  • Be encouraging, supportive, kind, fun, sensitive, honest, a great teacher, and above all, a great student

Competencies for Success:

  • 5+ years experience with data science, analytics, and ML tooling
  • Proficient with Python modeling frameworks like scikit-learn, Tensorflow, and/or Keras
  • Proficient in SQL (BigQuery or other CDW is a plus)
  • Strong statistical fundamentals
  • Experience developing production grade models and commitment to highest standards of software development
  • Understanding of software/technology product practices
  • Basic knowledge of retail/ecommerce and related data is a plus but not required
  • High aptitudes for learning and creative problem solving
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and working style - self-starting, highly accountable, ability to anticipate problems and define and implement effective solutions on a evolving roadmap

  • Increased utilization of Leap’s data and rendered insights by brand customers and Leap team members/employees to operate and grow the business profitably
  • More scalable teams and measurably better decision making through predictive modeling applications
