While timely diagnosis of infectious diseases is critically important to enable effective treatment, testing is primarily performed in centralized laboratories, which require samples to be shipped for processing, delaying the return of results by days. Point-of-care testing solves this problem by delivering the timely information necessary for clinical care.

Position Summary

In this role, you will share responsibility for software and firmware architecture and participate in system architecture. As part of a team, you will design, implement, and test low-level C firmware and high-level C++ application code on our Talis One medical diagnostic instrument. You must have a proven ability to design, document and implement complex algorithms and workflows in clean, maintainable code which includes creating software components and unit tests from scratch. Your day-to-day work may include coaching more junior engineers.

Education/Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 5 years' relevant experience in embedded software development
  • Technical ability to solve complex problems through creativity and deduction
  • Writing low-latency embedded control software in C for RTOS
  • Writing multi-threaded embedded Linux applications using STL, Boost and modern C++ standards such as C++11/14/17
  • Debugging low-level code with bench hardware, e.g., oscilloscopes
  • Championing best practices including agile process improvement, design documentation, code review, and automated/unit testing
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Preferred Experience

  • Prior work in safety critical industries, such as Medical, Aerospace or Automotive, including requirement definition, design documentation, and testing protocols
  • Worked closely with Systems, or have exercised Systems approach to solving problems
  • IEC62304 experience
  • Linux kernel driver development
  • BSP/SDK development in Yocto
  • U-Boot development
  • GUI development in Qt
  • Python for test automation
