As a Senior Government Relations Associate for the Policy and Advocacy Department at ASCO, you will be responsible for providing support on activities related to Capitol Hill, the ASCO Association PAC and grassroots engagement, and state advocacy. You will help plan and execute the annual ASCO Advocacy Summit, coordinate and staff Capitol Hill briefings and receptions, and manage special projects for the PAC Congressional Affairs as needed.

Responsibilities

Provide support on activities related to grassroots, Capitol Hill, the ASCO Association PAC, and state advocacy

Help plan and execute the annual ASCO Advocacy Summit, including serving as the key point of contact for logistical needs of approximately 180 ASCO members attending, handling invitations and rsvps, writing and editing Summit materials, and updating the Summit website

Collaborate with the Grassroots Specialist to schedule appointments on Capitol Hill and in the district with members of Congress and/or their staff and provide talking points for grassroots advocates

Assist PAC Advisory Council meetings by helping to schedule quarterly calls, review and edit materials, and take minutes

Coordinate and staff Capitol Hill lobby days, briefings, and receptions in collaboration with the congressional affairs team, as well as take notes on congressional hearings, and coalition meetings as needed

Provide support to the Alliance for Childhood Cancer by staffing Alliance events, including lobby days, twice-yearly coalition meetings, and committee meetings

Manage special projects for the PAC, grassroots, state and congressional teams as needed, including research and analysis

Help format hearing testimony and letters to Congressional Committees and state legislatures, and ensure letters and comments are saved to our files
Required Education and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, or Business Administration, or equivalent years of experience

1 year of administrative or coordinating experience for an association, on Capitol Hill or related company

Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, & various internet browsers & search engines)
Preferred Education and Experience

Knowledge of the legislative process

Knowledge of healthcare issues, particularly cancer care and research
