We are currently looking for a Senior Manager, Public Opinion & External Affairs Research to join our team in Richmond VA, Washington, DC, or we are open to flexible or fully remote work arrangements.
This role requires an individual with relentless curiosity, excellent analytical abilities, strong business acumen as well as outstanding ability to communicate clearly, collaborate, and influence external stakeholders and internal clients including senior leaders of Communications, Corporate Responsibility, Government Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs organizations.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead public opinion research to drive deep understanding of societal stakeholders’ views across the enterprise and advance External Affairs objectives, enterprise-level Initiatives, and Altria’s Vision.
- Anticipate and correctly identify External Affairs clients’ objectives, and design and implement multiple research programs to advance those objectives in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
- Manage external research suppliers; provide clear direction, feedback, and build collaborative relationships to implement and deliver high quality and impactful research in compliance with Altria’s policies and procedures.
- Analyze and synthesize data to generate actionable insights and recommendations to advance External Affairs objectives and enterprise-level initiatives.
- Clearly interpret and communicate opinion research findings to help External Affairs clients embed research insights into their strategies and tactics.
- Build cross-functional relationships to link and generate data-driven insights for External Affairs clients and broader business partners.
What we want you to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in political science, public policy, marketing, analytics, communications or a related field.
- 8 + years of experience conducting public opinion research for Public Affairs or related areas.
- Advanced knowledge of public opinion research methodologies and how and when to apply them.
- Experience in External Affairs is a plus (e.g., Communications, Corporate Responsibility, Government Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs).
- Strong project management skills to successfully lead, prioritize, and allocate resources to multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Intellectual curiosity, creativity, a passion for discovering and implementing new solutions, and the ability to learn quickly.
- Advanced analysis and critical thinking skills, along with the strategic perspective to quickly synthesize data into relevant findings, actionable insights, and strategic recommendations.
- Ability to articulate thoughts and express ideas effectively using oral, written, and non-verbal communication as well as to listen for meaning and understanding.
- Ability to comfortably and confidently present data to inform, instruct, and persuade all levels across the enterprise and external stakeholders.
- Ability to build visuals to clearly translate complex data into simple to understand stories and recommendations.
- Ability to build and maintain consultative relationships with diverse clients, cross-functional teams, and external business partners.
- Ability and desire to manage talent and teams.
- High level of proficiency with MS Office applications, especially Excel & PowerPoint.
