About the role

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will work on the network infrastructure that powers product and engineering teams across the company. To help us continue to scale, automating repetitive tasks and optimizing for efficiency are critical for this role! You’ll have the opportunity to bring your own experience and skillset to directly craft how we work. We’re looking to iteratively improve our network through the use of new cloud services and tools with the goal to abstract the network away from services. No two days will be the same and you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of technologies and partner teams throughout Zillow Group’s portfolio of brands.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will:

• Work closely with engineering teams to understand their connectivity needs, provide guidance and solutions for connectivity while planning for the future.

• Define and track metrics for the usage of our network, propose and implement changes that improve reliability, reduce cost, and make it more secure.

• Perform deployment, configuration, and management of all network infrastructure.

• Work with external partners as needed to manage day-to-day operations and reliability of the regional network.

• Schedule and perform maintenance including upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning of network infrastructure where required.

• Participate in an on-call rotation to support the regional network infrastructure 24x7.

• Proactively supervise core networks, components, and associate connections to detect and resolve problems and ensure uninterrupted operations of the networks.

• Document processes, procedures, designs and topology, and maintain asset database for installed network gear.

• Be responsible for evolving our on-prem and AWS network connectivity while continually improving its security and reliability.

• Automate provisioning and infrastructure changes and connectivity through tooling and custom code.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $113,200.00 - $180,800.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

• 7+ years of relevant Network Engineering experience in an enterprise environment.

• 5+ years of experience building and maintaining cloud, hybrid cloud, or private cloud network environments.

• Strong understanding of the OSI Layers, including modern network protocols and relevant experience with IPv6.

• Deep understanding of network routing and stateless and stateful packet inspection.

• Have a solid understanding of IPSEC connectivity.

• Experience with Cisco AnyConnect VPN is a plus.

• Familiarity with network automation, programming languages and scripting, I.E. Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Salt and/or equivalent.

• Solid understanding of Amazon Web Services VPC and AWS Networking Technologies.

• In-depth knowledge of internet architectures and associated routing, switching, wireless and security technologies.

• Proven knowledge of Cisco and Juniper operating systems.

• Experience working in a multi-vendor environment with hands-on experience with networking hardware.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively.

• Passion for working with Agile processes (Jira,Scrum/Kanban/TDD/XP/...) in a team environment.
