Senior Principal, Commercial Lead of Clinical Research - job 2 of 2

We’re looking for a Senior Principal to lead commercial activities for Flatiron’s suite of clinical research offerings. We believe that traditional clinical research paradigms are ill-equipped to address the volume and complexity of research questions that face drug developers, researchers, and regulators. Flatiron’s Clinical Research Business Unit (BU) is building technology-first products and operations to support new approaches to prospective evidence generation and interventional clinical trial execution. Our clinical research technology is deployed across a diverse set of top-tier academic medical centers as well as a broad network of community oncology clinics. Flatiron also has active research partnerships with leading biopharma companies, CROs, the FDA, and the NCI.

We are looking for an individual with a proven track record of leading teams responsible for driving business growth, who is excited about changing the world of clinical research.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll lead the Commercial team for Flatiron’s Clinical Research BU and you will be responsible for delivering sales growth of our clinical research offerings. You will play a leading role in shaping go-to-market strategy for the clinical research business, including our sales strategy to biopharma, biotech and clinical research organizations (CROs). 

We’re looking for someone with clinical research expertise who can partner closely with our customers to articulate how Flatiron’s clinical research offerings are uniquely positioned to address some of the most persistent barriers and challenges in clinical research today.

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for driving sales growth of Flatiron’s clinical research offerings, identifying new opportunities to expand Flatiron’s book of business in clinical research and ensuring annual business development targets are achieved
  • Be responsible for both complex, multifaceted enterprise wide sales and lead generation for clinical research software
  • Become a subject matter expert on Flatiron’s clinical research offerings and reliably represent our technology and capabilities with potential customers (biopharma, biotech and CROs) 
  • Establish strong relationships with senior executives across clients to raise awareness for Flatiron’s offerings, secure support for the development of new business opportunities and act as a thought partner to identify how our innovative solutions can deliver value to our customers
  • Build a high performing team that drives lead generation, serves as the primary point of contact for clinical research customers during the sales process, is responsible for development of new business proposals, works cross-functionally with product, engineering, operations, professional services and scientific colleagues to scope, negotiate and contract new engagements that advance Flatiron’s commercial goals and meet customer needs
  • Support post-sale engagement at a strategic level, collaborating with relevant cross-functional teams, to ensure customers unlock the full potential of Flatiron’s products in order to cultivate repeat business
  • Reliably represent customer feedback and needs to the business unit to help enhance existing products, identify new potential product offerings and refine go-to-market strategy
  • Regularly travel to client sites, industry relevant conferences and trade shows (anticipated travel <20%, including 5 - 10 industry relevant events per year)

Who You Are

You’re an individual with a deep understanding of clinical research, an analytical approach to problem solving, and have experience building and leading teams responsible for sales growth. You are highly motivated by being part of a cross-functional team focused on transformational change in the area of clinical research. You're excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You’re a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact. 

  • You have a B.A. or B.S. (preferred degree in scientific discipline)
  • You have 8+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
  • Healthcare technology companies focused on clinical research
  • Clinical research organizations (CROs) focused on innovation
  • Healthcare oriented consulting firms with a focus on clinical research
  • Biopharmaceutical company in a clinical-development team (or team adjacent to clinical-development) or in an clinical trial operations function with responsibility for partnering with external collaborators
  • You have extensive experience and a passion for engaging directly with biopharma, biotech and CRO partners to help advance their research strategies
  • Strong understanding of all elements of clinical trial process to drive research programs, including design, site selection, patient recruitment and data management
  • You have a proven track record of leading teams to drive business growth, ideally in the clinical research space
  • You have a track record of success in developing long term business partnerships with life science companies in a strategic and abstract space
  • You can apply your healthcare background to reliably represent Flatiron in capabilities presentations, project scoping, contract negotiations and to cultivate long term strategic partnerships
  • You are flexible, have a start-up mindset, and enjoy a fast-paced environment
  • You have the ability to juggle multiple client interactions and deadlines simultaneously 
  • You have the agility to work across and develop relationships with diverse, cross-functional teams
  • You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • You have the following traits: proactive, self-motivated and self-directed, detail-oriented, comfortable with ambiguity, and data driven

Extra Credit 

  • You have experience with novel approaches to leveraging data and technology to design better clinical trials, accelerate patient recruitment and/or re-imagine clinical trial data collection and management
  • You have experience with and are well versed in a wide array of evidence generation strategies (e.g., real-world evidence, prospective registries, interventional clinical trials)
  • You have oncology experience
  • You have an advanced degree (MS, PhD, MPH, MBA)
