Providing chemical and instrumental analytical laboratory support for the Formaldehyde division activities concentrated on new product development, R&D, commercial, manufacturing, and technical service. This includes analytical methods development, maintenance and operation of analytical instrumentation, accurate recording, and timely reporting of results. Position is essential to effective and timely commercialization of novel products, and to provide ancillary support for both North America and globally.
Job Responsibilities
Formulate and synthesis innovative hydrogen sulfide (H2S) scavengers for oil and gas applications, waste-water treatment, downstream refineries, and other H2S treating applications
Establish projects to support the strategy and key initiatives of the Global Formaldehyde Business
Effectively and efficiently plan work and execute projects
Excellent communications on development objectives, problems, work assignments, etc.
Productive with limited guidance and supervision
Propose and complete research projects; presenting results of experimentation in reporting, memoranda, or research project reviews
Formulation and synthesis of new products, considering availability of raw materials, commercial viability, and process requirements
Assist with expanding development knowledge base, materials, and processes to produce marketable products
Organize and plan laboratory procedures, chemical reactions, syntheses, and tests of a non-repetitive nature and devise new methods/tests/capabilities, if appropriate
Assist manufacturing and commercial teams with pilot, scale-up, and field trials of new products, as well as specific customer projects
Prepare laboratory reports and customer correspondence regarding studies performed, describing methods and findings.
Adhere to Hexion EHS requirements, laboratory safety standards, and maintain a clean and safe work area
Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and records.
Monitor current literature, trends, and patent activity on hydrogen sulfide scavengers
Establish expert knowledge of customer base and products for Global Formaldehyde Group.
Minimum Qualifications
Chemist with very strong hydrogen sulfide (H2S) scavenging chemistry background
Record of developing disruptive technology
Excellent working knowledge of oil and gas H2S scavenger market, major customers, applications, and specific critical to quality requirements
Profound knowledge of current non-regenerative scavenger offerings, alternate chemistry, and patent landscape
A minimum relevant education (bachelor’s degree).
A minimum of 10 years applicable industry experience
Demonstrated excellence in problem solving and critical thinking skills
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to communicate effective with individuals at all levels within Hexion and customers
Demonstrated experience in collaborating with other technical professionals, preferably in a high-performance team-oriented environment
Highly organized and self-directed and good time management skills
Strong computer skills with experience in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical programs such as JMP and/or MINITAB
Background or experience with design of experiment (DOE’s) and SCRUM
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Materials Science
