Senior RF IC Designer

About Us

Everactive brings self-powered intelligence to the physical world. Operating without batteries, the company's always-on wireless sensors deliver continuous cloud-based analytics at a scale not possible with battery-powered devices. Everactive's end-to-end solutions are built upon groundbreaking advances in ultra-low-power circuit design and wireless communication that allow the company to power its Eversensors exclusively from harvested energy.

About the Role

Everactive is looking for someone to join the Analog IC Design Team who has experience in RFIC design for energy constrained systems and is comfortable making hardware design trade-offs in order to meet those energy constraints. We are looking for an engineer who understands radio design at both the block level and system level, but knowledge in both areas is not explicitly required. Tasks will be varied and will include low power IC block level design (RF PLLs, VCOs, LOs, LNAs, mixers, filters, amps, RSSI, etc.) as well as system level analysis (link budgets, architecture decision-making, noise and linearity planning, AGC loops, etc.). Other tasks could include designing for low power standards like 802.15.4 or BLE. Experience in RF PLL design and an understanding of the interaction between the low-level networking layers is a significant plus.

Wireless communication is a key differentiator for Everactive. Everactive has its own sensor network protocol which utilizes a combination of proprietary and standard compliant radios that enable ultra-low power yet scalable sensor node deployments.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A Master's degree or greater in Electrical Engineering
  • Approximately 5-10 years of proven experience
  • Experience designing low power radio ICs with an emphasis on ASK or FSK-based architectures
  • Experience with the following circuits: RF PLLs, VCOs, LOs, LNAs, mixers, filters, amps, RSSI
  • Experience with the following concepts at a system level: link budget, noise, linearity, AGC, RSSI
  • Familiarity with low power protocols (802.15.4, BLE, etc.) and the impact on radio front-end hardware
  • Experience with analog simulation tools from Cadence, Synposys, or Siemens EDA
  • Knowledge in operating lab test equipment including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, high speed oscilloscopes
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills
  • Energy and aim to thrive in start-up environment

And will likely also have:

  • Experience with ultra-low power (sub-uW) IC design
  • Experience with modeling (MATLAB, Verilog, real number modeling)

About our Values

Successful Everactive employees routinely exhibit our four core values:

  • Pioneering ideas: to revolutionize computing, we look for the best ideas without being constrained by existing approaches. This clean slate, first principles approach expands our creative scope and helps us lead development of the next generation IIoT with field-changing technology.
  • Rigorous, honest thinking: we approach all of our endeavors with intellectual honesty and rigor. This honesty leads us to careful self-evaluation - identifying and admitting what we do not know – and to making hard decisions when we believe they are right.
  • Live well, work well: we believe that there are many things in life that are more important than work and that a fulfilling life outside of work makes it easier to do excellent work when you are focusing on the work part of life. Likewise, working well makes life more fulfilling.
  • One Team: We are a team of diverse individuals aligned by a common vision of the future of computing. We are strongest when we respect and embrace our differences. This requires that we share our thoughts, ask questions, and candidly provide feedback and encouragement to others. We are passionately committed to inclusion across race, gender, age, beliefs, identity, orientation, and life experiences that make us unique. Our diversity drives our greatest achievements.
