About SimpliSafe
We're a high-tech home security company that's passionate about protecting the life you've built and our mission of keeping Every Home Secure. And we've created a culture here that cares just as deeply about the career you're building. Ours is a no ego culture of collaboration and innovation where those seeking their next challenge can find big opportunities and make a huge impact on the lives of all those who we protect. We don't just want you to work here. We want you to grow and thrive here.
We are partnering with a local India firm called Kaamwork to build out an Engineering presence in India.
Why are we hiring?
Well, we're growing and thriving. So, we need smart, talented, and humble people who share our values to join us as we relentlessly pursue our goal of ensuring everyone feels safe in their own home.
Team & Role
We are the fastest-growing home security company in the country competing against the entrenched giants, like ADT, and the new-to-the-space giants, like Amazon and Google. To compete in this ever-growing IoT home automation security space we must learn and iterate quickly, work collaboratively, and deliver creatively. In service to this challenge, our engineering team is proud to own and run the literal "full stack", from designing and building the circuit boards on our hardware all the way to coding the UI on our mobile applications.
What You'll Do:
As a home security platform, we handle various components such as hardware, firmware, and software. These components are developed by separate engineering teams using different programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Our approach is decentralized.
The core focus of this team is to cultivate engineering excellence by upholding high-quality standards and driving standardization across the platform. Our main initiatives involve the creation of services that can simulate hardware in real-time, enabling our teams to develop solutions without relying on physical devices. Additionally, we are committed to establishing a uniform level of standardization across the platform by ensuring consistent code quality and adherence to API specifications.
In this role, you will be joining the team as a Senior Software Engineer.
Specifically, You'll:
- Take ownership of the entire lifecycle of the solution, from design to deployment and ongoing support.
- Collaborate and coordinate with various engineering teams within the platform to drive adoption, gather feedback, and continuously improve the solution.
- Mentoring and guiding junior team members, as well as fostering the adoption of more dynamic processes within the team.
- Stay informed about industry trends and advancements, actively seeking out solutions that can reduce costs, enhance engineering excellence, and advocating for their implementation.
What You'll Bring:
- 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, with a strong background in distributed systems, microservices, and API contracts.
- Proficiency in object-oriented design principles and distributed design patterns.
- Familiarity with data stores (such as Postgres and MariaDB), and experience in designing distributed systems using messaging queues (such as Kafka).
- Strong coding and debugging abilities, with advanced knowledge in at least one programming language (Python/Go/JavaScript/Java/Kotiln...) and a willingness to learn more. For backend work, Python will be the primary language used.
- Excellent understanding of testing methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing, interface testing, and mocks.
- Experience working with public cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and CI/CD automation.
- A collaborative team player who can also serve as a mentor for junior team members.
- Bonus points for the ability to develop UI tools.
What Values You'll Share:
- Customer Obsessed - Building deep empathy for customers and developing strong, long-term relationships with them.
- Aim High - Always challenging oneself and others to raise the bar.
- No Ego - "no job too small" attitude, and open, inclusive and humble style.
- One Team - highly collaborative approach to achieving success.
- Lift As We Climb - A track record of investing in developing others and helping others succeed.
- Lean & Nimble - working with agility and efficiency to experiment in an often-ambiguous environment.
