Senior Staff Engineer - Backend, Liftoff Influence

On the Influence team, you'll get the best of both worlds: a start-up within a larger, established company that is a leader in our industry. In this role you'll be part of a small team and have a huge impact on the architecture and development of an exciting product!


What you'll do:

  • Lead the development and improvements within our data architecture, including database structures via Postgres and big data technologies such as BigQuery for data warehousing
  • Lead cross-functional integration efforts with engineering teams across Liftoff, working closely with colleagues in product, design, and operations to develop and launch new features, services, and data integrations
  • Learn and master our systems to a high level of proficiency
  • Take the lead on our most complex initiatives and launches
  • Develop and maintain automated reporting and visualization tools to provide insights into business performance, and work with stakeholders to identify opportunities for optimization and growth
  • Lead efforts to prioritize and address technical debt across our systems, and develop and implement strategies for debt reduction and prevention
  • Work with stakeholders to identify and prioritize data system requirements, and develop and implement solutions that meet these requirements while scaling effectively.
  • Lead efforts to optimize system performance, including identifying and addressing bottlenecks, reducing latency, and improving system reliability and stability.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, providing guidance and support to help them grow their skills and expertise.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and 12+ years of engineering experience (or Master's Degree with 8+ years of experience), with at least 1 year of management experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of success at high-growth startups, with experience scaling to 100+ employees.
  • High level of proficiency with Node.js (our main language), TypeScript, JavaScript, SQL, and experience with frontend frameworks such as React.
  • Strong expertise in developing and implementing complex data architectures, as well as a deep understanding of big data technologies and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Experience with performance tuning, profiling, and debugging of complex systems, as well as experience with testing frameworks.
Preferred location for this position is in the Bay Area.
Liftoff's compensation strategy includes competitive market rate along with equity and benefits and perks that will give our employees what they need to do their best work. In order to ensure teams are compensated fairly for the work performed, we map out specific levels and take into consideration the cost of labor within each location.
The minimum base pay for this position in the US depends on the location and falls in the following zones:
SF Bay Area, New York City, Los Angeles, Orange County: $190,000
Seattle/Olympia, Austin, Boston, San Diego, Santa Barbara: $170,000
All other cities in our approved to hire states: $160,000
