The JSI Center for HIV and Infectious Diseases supports the organizations’ HIV and infectious disease portfolios by connecting staff across divisions, projects, and geographic areas; sharing the latest developments and scientific findings; providing strategic thought leadership; supporting new business development; and representing the organizations’ portfolios internally and externally.
The Center seeks a Senior Technical Advisor to spearhead leadership of our Malaria portfolio and support its ongoing growth and operations. The Technical Advisor is an integral member of the Center, with key responsibilities in carrying out technical initiatives of the Center, supporting technical excellence and learning, contributing to new business efforts, and advancing JSI’s thought leadership in Malaria through conferences, operational research and other avenues. The applicant is expected to work on Center-related activities on a part time basis as well as directly engage with projects, levels to-be-determined.
This internationally-focused Senior Technical Advisor will be fully remote and can be based in any US state where JSI is registered or any country where JSI has registration. Note this position will be paid in local currency.
- Promote the application of best practices in malaria programming and build capacity in assigned projects.

Provide and implement a technically sound strategic vision for how analytics, surveillance and health information systems can be leveraged to strengthen malaria programs.

Serve as an organization-wide resource for projects in need of support/technical assistance in malaria.

Provide strategic thought leadership, vision, and internal/external representation for JSI’s work in Malaria; contribute to raising JSI’s profile via networking, publications, social media, and conference presentations; and support JSI staff to excel in implementing Malaria systems strengthening.

Work closely with JSI colleagues to strategize and position JSI for malaria-related new business opportunities.

Participate in technical design, writing and proposal review in support of malaria-related new business activities.

Work to ensure JSI staff stay abreast of up-to-date and cutting-edge evidence-based best practices in Malaria disease knowledge, including study results, policy updates, and donor priorities.

Communicate effectively across a matrixed organization, coordinate in-country and global teams and resources, and build relationships in malaria systems strengthening and programming efforts on allocated projects.

Support knowledge management initiatives, documentation, learning, and dissemination on JSI’s malaria systems strengthening and technical assistance activities.

Identify innovations and new opportunities, anticipate risks and be proactive in responding to them.

- Medical Degree and/or Master's in Public Health, Health Informatics, Health Data Science, Entomology, Tropical Medicine or Infectious Diseases or related field is required.

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience managing and leading technical teams in a donor-funded or NGO environment is required.
- At least 7 years of progressive experience implementing and/or providing technical assistance on public health, MNCH, and/or malaria programs is required.

Experience working effectively in cross-sector teams and cross-cultural settings is required.

A highly organized individual with proven diplomacy and/or negotiation skills and management experience is required.

Technical expertise in malaria prevention, malaria diagnosis, malaria case management, quality and/or improvement for strengthening malaria service delivery at the global, regional, national and clinical levels is required.

Demonstrable analytical skills to identify and evaluate best practices and state-of-the-art approaches to enhance project implementation are highly desirable.

Experience working with national Ministries of Health, especially national malaria control programs, on policy and strategy formulation, implementation and monitoring is a distinct advantage.

Expertise in operational research, including protocol preparation and publications, preferred.

Fluency in English is required, and a second language (French or Spanish) is a distinct advantage.

Exceptional writing, speaking and presentation skills required.

Attention to detail, able to work in teams and manage workflow processes under time sensitive project deadlines is required.
